Pool 4 Fall Fishing

As some of you know, I am fairly new to the area and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your guidance and input in helping me learn Pool 4.

So…I thought I’d use this forum once again for some info. For the past 6 years, my brother and I have traveled to the Red and Winnipeg Rivers in October to chase those monster walleyes that dump into there from Lake Winnipeg. Anyone familiar with that fishery knows that it has gone downhill the past couple of years. With that, we have opted to look at different waters this Oct. Thinking of Mille Lacs during the full moon (my bro would love it), but would like to have a back up body of water too. What is the Fall fishing like on Pool 4?

One Line….

Seriously. You can’t go wrong with the upper end of pool 4 from Mid October, until X-mas…with late October and november being great times. There is a vertical jigging sauger bite at the dam, and some awesome walleye “pitchin jigs” fishing as well.

Check out the reports archive from last fall. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the number and quality of fish Pool 4 has to offer that time of year. Plus it only take a couple drifts to get a meal of saugers, on slow days. I know where I’ll be the weekends I’m not on Mille Lacs chasing the full moon piggies.

I would recommend James & Dustins video. It was done in the fall at the upper end of pool 4 and you can see and learn some awsome things.

The fishing is excellent on the river in the fall and spring… the only problem is that it is no secret…the river get pretty crowded this time of year espectially on the weekends it is umberable

I have been watching the reports closely from the Pine falls area every year and I too have wondered what has been going on up there?

Anyway, I fish Pool 2 (catch and release pool) from October all the way through the winter but the best time down here in my opinion for consistant big fish time is October-Demember! Because Pool 2 is catch and release, it does not see near the pressure and people that Pool 4 recieves. Do not get me wrong, Pool 4 is awesome, but Pool 2
has been very kind to me over the last 9 years in the fall.
Like mentioned above, check out the report archives and see all of the reports we have from that period. ITs flat out hard to pass up the river (any pool) this time of year!
