I would like to get some facts and well educated opinions on which of these is the better walleye pool and why? Just for the fun of it.

My opinion is 9 I have seen the quality of fish that consistently come from that pool, too bad I can’t ever seem to be the one catching them
The pool itself is pretty big with lots of backwaters for these fish to live in besides the main channel fish. Also the wingdams on this pool are many and hold quality fish. I don’t know if the warm water discharge at the power plant has anything to do with it, but I think it is a key in the size and numbers of fish down there.
I fish all three pools and have caught fish on all of them. My guess would be pool 9, just being there is so much more area than the other 2. JUst my 2cents worth .
i enjoy 7 because it is closer to home, fewer weekend warriors, and less competition because amwatson is on 9.
I fish 7 a lot in the summer just because of the lack of pleasure boaters. Usually I see a few boats come through when the locks open on either end then nothing for a while. 8 is craziness most of the time. You’re usually fighting with cruisers, jet skiiers, and other anglers.
I like 9, but don’t fish it that much just because of having 7 & 8 right here. 9 is definately bigger with more options. 7 is the smallest of the 3 but probably the easiest to fish. All in all I’d rate them like this 9,7, and 8.
I caught a 20″ saug this year on 9 flipping for bass..So it must be good!!
My vote goes to pool 9 when it comes to walleye out of pools 7, 8 & 9. I haven’t fished pool 8 this year but have fished both 7 & 9. I spent the better part of a week fishing pool 9 this spring and did OK on walleyes.
Actually the best walleye pools I’ve fished the past few years have been pools 12, 13 & 14. These are the pools with the closed tailwater seasons (Dec. 1st to March 15th) as well as the protected 20″ to 27″ slot. Really good numbers of fish in all 3 pools as well as quite a few fish in the protected slot if you like catching bigger fish. All 3 of these pools also have supplimental stocking.
Pool 8 could be a walleye bonanza. Lots of fishermen steer away from pool 8 just like they do pool 12 because of how much pleasure boat traffic they get. I know several guys who will travel up to pool 11 at Guttenburg driving right past pool 12 just because there is so much traffic on pool 12 and the funny thing is pool 12 is easily the better walleye pool by along shot. Pool 11 has become the “Dead Sea” when it comes to walleye fishing when compared to pools 12, 13 & 14.
Pool 9 might be the second best pool on the river for walleyes. I have fished Pool 4 through 12, but not pool 12 lately. For me and only me I like pool 9 the best followed closely by pool 5. Lots of dams and lots of backwater. I mainly fish pool 7 which can be good and pool 8 just has to many pleasure boats for me.
On pool 9 there is Blackhawk park. There is a campground on 7 near Trempeleau. I don’t remember the name right now, but it’s right outside of Trempeleau.
Undecided which pool next week up there. I will be on 17 and 18 this weekend.
For camping on Pool 9, I will second Blackhawk Park.
For Pool 7, all I know for sure is Perot State Park. Both are very nice and either right on the water or real close
