I was just wondering if everyone is see alot of these 14.75″ walleyes this year. I know every year you catch a few, but this year on pool 7 & 9 its crazy. The past 2 months 90% of the walleye I have caught are 14.75″. I can only remember one other year that I caught this many and that was back in 2004 on pool 4 and 5. Normal years I would say 25% of the walleyes I catch are that size.

It sounds like you had a really good hatch 3 years ago up on those pools. It takes walleyes 3 seasons in the Mississippi to reach that magical 15″ legal size or so the IDNR has told me. By fall many of these 14-1/2″ fish will be of legal size. Just remember to put a few back.

I know exactly what you are talking about. The one wingdam on pool 7 I like to fish is loaded with Walleye. Everyone of them is 14 7/8″. I keep going back every other week hoping they grow that last 3/16 of an inch.

We’ve got the same thing going on here on Lake Wisconsin.

It’s surprising how many times similar waters from different geographic locations experience similar events. Like hatches of shad or white bass or walleyes.

We’re still catching plenty of legals and larger slot fish, but also a bunch of fish on or near that 14-1/2″ mark.

Have caught many 14 3/4-7/8 eyes this year on 7 aswell. Many in the spring at the dam. DNR busted a few boats who could not help themselves

I troll and cast cranks, so normally I catch on average +17″ fish, but this year its been almost all 14.75″ walleye on pool 7. On pool 9 I have caught some bigger fish, but still alot 14.75″.

Pool 4 especially in lake Pepin I have pounded these tiny 5-7″ walleyes in huge pods so a couple years should have a hell of a year class coming up too

Back channel area on Pool 4 is really loaded with the little guys this year. Most of them are nowhere near 14 inches though. The future looks bright for Pool 4 as far as walleye are concerned!

I just think it’s another strong year class. Remember 2004 when you caught all of those 14-1/2 inchers, then 05&06 there were all the 16-20’s there were on the dams.
Next year should be great for all of the eaters.

I have been up on pool 9 the last 2 weekends, it is really loaded with thise 14.5 inch fish. we got them trolling cranks and dragging jigs.
We did catch some bigger fish dragging jigs on the sand point below DeSoto Bay. Nice to see a healthy population of those guys coming along!
