I’m heading to the river today. Staying south of Pepin because of the tournament. Question: When trolling 3 ways, is the goal to keep it vertical? Or do you need to get it behind to the boat to get by the spooked fish, since you are in <10 ft. water most of the time? Hope to see you out there and keep the lines wet!

Hmm. I would think you might run into alot more boats down by Wabasha. I dont think anyone’s been fishing the lake that much. Keep your line at a 45 degree angle has always been the rule when pulling three-ways. The success of this technique is driven by boat speed, water depth, and boat control. Knowing when to change to a heavier or lighter weight can be critical. That can be just as important as what you put on the business end of the line.

If you do encounter too many tournement boats around Reads Landing or Wabasha, try the Robinson lake area. Sandy flats and many wingdams to choose from.
