Was out this morning poking around the middle part of Pool 2. Spent most of the day fishing the top of wingdams with cranks. Didnt find any one sweet spot, but ended the day with 5 fish total, two at 24 inches the rest between 20 and 22. All but one came throwning cranks on main river wingies.

So Im fishing this wingdam and I look down river and here is this snake swimmng below the bow. As I moved the boat with the trolling motor the snake would move with me keeping right below the boat. After a couple of minutes I figured the snake wasnt going to give up. Coward that I am i fired up the motor and got the &^%O$## away. No snake is gonna eat my crank baits, dog or me! So, for those of you who are out on Pool 2 this weekend, watch out! Thats no ordinary reptile.

We pitched and trolled around lillydale and hidden falls this morning. Pitching was a little slow. Joel was able to connect with a couple mid sized walleyes on a small rock bar. Trolling was going pretty good. Think there would of been a pretty good bite going if we had more time to fish it. Shad raps trolled along the shoreline was what was working here. Make sure the lips are hitting bottom.

Slower for me this morning. Fished around 494 between 9:00 and 11:30. I tried a few wingdams with little success. Caught a handfull trolling rock along the main channel. Nothing huge, but all fish between 20 and 24″. I would’ve kept on trolling, but only had a short window of fishing time this morning.

Well Mike I ended the day with 8, a 18 and 19 inch sauger, and walleyes 22,23,25,25,25,27.75, doing my usual night crawler and three way rig. I can’t complain at all, Pool 2 has the quality that I love. Everything changed for me compared to last weekend as far as locations, if I could only fish two days in a row!! Here is a pic of the 27.75

Look on here once and a while to see what’s going on and made it out to the river today so I figured I post up.

Headed south out of 494 this evening. Never been on this stretch of river before. Caught 3-19″ sauger and an 18″ smallie casting plastics to the shore. Caught the fish in only one spot.

Tried fishing some wingdams but the flow over them seemed real strong to me, I have nothing to compare it to though.

I really had no idea where to start as I’m not much of a river guy. Maybe next time I’ll try trollin some cranks next to the main channel.

What type of depths do you guys target? Our fish came out of about 2-3′ of water.

    Hey Flicker!
I’ve just started doing some serious trolling on pool 2; but I’ve had some pretty good results so far. Mike and I came to the conclusion on Saturday that the fish are pretty spread out on the upper pool. That should make trolling a good option. Something I noticed is that if the shoreline is rock/gravel that should be a decent area to troll and areas that transition from rock to sand on the shoreline should be transitioning in the water too and should be good.

Sunday I went out in the morning solo and trolled a stretch in 6′ to 14′ of water pulling purple hot n tots (Thanks Dean!) I boated about 16 fish in 3 hours. The two biggest went 21″ and 22″ with lots in the 14″ to 20″ range.
The best depths seemed to be 10′ to 12′ I went out again that evening with Marty and trolled the same area. It was slower but we managed a few fish. Like Mike said, ticking those rocks makes a difference. If you aren’t hitting bottom some you aren’t catching.

TBO and I made it out for a while on sunday again. Pitched wingdams and rocks. About the only thing that seemd to of changed from the previous week was the walleyes seem a bit more willing to take a crankbait this weekend. We didnt get a lot of fish yesterday but our three nicest fish where Joes 29″ er and I caught a 27.75″ and a 26.5″. We took photos but it sounds like the camera might of had a malfunction.

I dont think there is any certian depth to target. The walleye can be anywhere. Catching them in 2 to 3′ of water is with the water as dirty as it is.

Nice fish Joe, too bad about the camera malfunction guys. I found a few active fish trolling yesterday, but the wingdam bite was pretty slow for me unless you count sheepshead and channel cats. I found one 25″ walleye and thought I had the big one, but it turned out to be a hard fighting 24″ channel cat the looked to be full of spawn. Or else it ate a couple of softballs.

I thought I had a good day last week, then my neighbor showed my a pic of a 30″ (could have been Susie with the sore on her tail) and a 26″. I had some serious numbers, a large snagged channel and a 18″ smallie.

I had some takers on a few main channel wingdams on Sunday. In addition we took a couple fish off some rip rap while trolling #7 shad raps in one pass. It looked promising, but I hated to troll when we could pitch plastics. There will be plenty of pulling cranks as the summer moves along.

Like fish them all, I too thought, I had a monster eyeball hat morphed into a nice plump cat. It was great to be back on the river, it had been too long.

When I was pulling my boat out of the water I had a chance to chat with Fish them all. Nice talking to an fellow IDA guy.

I was on the water Monday morning (6/4). Cranks were still off for me on the wingies, but the hair bite continued, though they now preferred chartruese over black. Also, my fish came toward the river channel point of the dam. Good luck to all!

Nice to meet you to Ben. It seems most of the boaters on pool 2 that are out fishing are members here.

Spent Friday and Monday morning on the river. Ended up with 5 fish per trip. Nothing over 24 inches. But I do need to remember that 3 years ago before I starting learning the river fish this size would have been more then big!

Spent all my time pitching plastics and cranking wingdams. Fish seemed scattered, the only definable pattern was finding deep current seams and working these areas more carefully.

Last week I trailered up the boat and am heading home on Highway 61. Checking out my back mirror I see this rainbow of colors. I see yellow, I see green, I see purple; the list goes on! Then it hits me, it was my hair jigs! Lesson learned; always put your tackle away. Oh, if anybody wants some jigs they are scattered on the north bound medium on 61 bridge!

Being without hair jigs I am fishing more plastics on Pool 2. I would appreciate any suggestions on preferred color and type for wing dams and June Walleyes.

Purple white tail ringworms with a orange jigs allways seems to be a good combo this time of year. Joe got his big fish on purple/chartreuse tail. White Kgrubs and I would think paddle tails should be good. I havent gotten to far away from these colors yet.
