I had a friend talk me into heading out on pool 12 last night (Wednesday) after work. He didn’t have to twist my arm too-much. Over the past month the wingdam walleye bite has been nothing short of fantastic here at DBQ with lots of fish making it to the boat. Even this past Monday afternoon and evening I did quite well boating 2 fish over 24″ as well as a few in the 15″ to 20″ range. There seem to be lots of walleye over 20″ this year which I directly contribute to the protected slot.
Anyway last night I half expected the bite to be about the same as this past Monday evening which was pretty good. Fishing most of the regular spots I was only able to manage one walleye and my buddy was only able to muster one big sheepy. The conditions were very similar to Monday with a south wind and broken overcast. However the fish were not cooperating last night and I was at a loss as to why. Then watching the Weather Channel after i got home I see that today is the 2nd full moon of the month which is called a blue moon. This could very well explain why the bite sucked last night (my guess). Usually during and close to a full moon I have observed the best walleye bite to be in the middle of the day and during the night. I’m hoping that it is a good day bite this coming weekend as I have the weekend off to spend out on the river.
