Taking the day off tomorrow to take a customer to the lake. Was thinking about hitting the wing dams around Wabasha but have not seen any reports on these areas lately.

Is the water still high? Has there been any action on the dams? Should we try something else?

Would appreciate any help on this. I have a big contract riding on our fishing success tomorrow.

You will probably be on the river already before you get this, however, the Wabasha area has been slow, but getting better. Usually it picks up the last week in July for some reason. There is fish on the wing dams,of course some are better than others, wished I could help out more. I fished most of Saturday and Sunday and had over 20 keepers in the two days, fish ranged from 16-23″, some of current breaks and some on wing dams. Good luck!!

Well I finally got on the water Friday.
    Thank the walleye spirits.
The water level is back down to almost excellent.
    The fish were hungry.
    I had 18 to 20 fish, from 15 to 21 inches.
Most my fish came from 9 ft to 15 ft.
All were caught on crawlers or casting cranks.
Most all the wing dams are very fishable.
The flow is finally manageable, and in some places darn near perfect.
Worked a few Flukes and had some awesome smallies..
But most the day was spent catching walleyes..and tons of Sheepies, some over five pounds…wrist breakers..
The Bucktail bite is good for a few fish also.
    Good luck and limit out…
    Let the big ones go

Sounds like I might have to try the jigs and crawler method on the wingies. Plastics and cranks did nothing up here on pool 2 this morning. I had a few hits on the plastics and lost one nice fish but not much else. The dams I did have a little action on where the ones with a little better current and the front dropped to almost 20′. There seemed to be some fish on the lower part of them but finding the right offering was a different story. Big jig head was the trick to getting down to them.
Better luck next time for me
