I’m curious to know if anybody that may have been on pool 4 this evening…Sunday, noticed one of my rental boats on the water? It is a 15 ft. red lund plain fishing boat with a 15 hp motor. There were probably 3 asian males in it. It’s missing and I have the sheriff looking, but I was curious to see if the folks here at FTR can shed any light on where it may be. Did anybody see it floating downriver….being loaded up in a truck?? Thanks…and feel free to call me tonight if you know anything. It’s midnight now, and i’ll be up for awhile. Thanks.

Steve…I put in on the WI channel last night about 8:30 and ran up by the dam and then back down again about 11:30 or midnight… but didnt see anything. I think we were the only vehicle at that launch.
July 21, 2003 at 2:45 pm #271114Thanks Dirk. I thought that was your vehicle there. I was on my own search about 11pm and thought maybe you might be out. It appears as if I learned a lesson to not be in such a hurry and not get names. After a search by the water patrol at midnight and the sheriff’s dept, nothing has showed up. If anybody happened to see a 15 foot red lund on top of a vehicle or in a truck around 9:30-midnight?????, please let me know if you have any info for me. It wasn’t a $20,000 boat, but it really chaps my behind that people would steal a boat from me! I guess i’ve learned a lesson
July 21, 2003 at 3:13 pm #271115Steve,
I’ll keep my eyes open up here. Couple of questions:
– Did the boat have “Everts Resort” painted on the side?
– Do you have the Registration numbers?
– What kind of motor? (Merc/Evenrude?)Jon J.
July 21, 2003 at 3:19 pm #271116James just put in a classified ad selling a 15′ Lund w/ a 15hp motor for $300 or trade for a sturdy woman. You may want to start w/ him.
J/K of course-that stinks that you try to be cool, not give customers the 3rd degree and people take advantage of it.
July 21, 2003 at 6:43 pm #271129The boat has (had a 15 hp Johnson) on it. Everts Resort was painted on the side of it, but it was getting pretty faint from being faded/scratched. The Reg # is WS 5399 FK. It’s a plain old fishing boat. Bench seats, no lights, no swivel seats or anything. Greenish color on the inside. (That ugly light green lund puts on the inside of their small fishin boats). Thanks guys.
July 21, 2003 at 6:51 pm #271131MIssing boat is no good for sure, let’s hope those guys didn’t capsize, sink etc? Been known to happen!
I heard stealing a man’s boat was worse than insulting his mother?Jim W
2Fishy4UPosts: 973July 21, 2003 at 8:04 pm #271136Frankly, I could care less if these guys capsize, sink, whatever. There just a bunch of thiefs.
Hopefully, they will be dumb enough to use it on Pool 4 and one of us will spot it. I hate to say this but I know one spot that is very popular with he Asians ad although I will not be in the area this weekend I will have my son check it out.
How anyone can rent a boat and then steal it is beyond me.
July 21, 2003 at 8:14 pm #271140They fish up by the railroad bridge on the vermillion quite a bit. Might not hurt to check it out. Hope it turns up bud and they get there pee-pee’s wacked!!!!!
2Fishy4UPosts: 973July 22, 2003 at 1:13 pm #271205One other thought. Try the sandbar on the Wisconsin side by the Whitman Dam. There is usually a heavy concentration of Asian People on that bar with all types of boats.
July 22, 2003 at 3:14 pm #271221Thanks for all the help guys. I got a call from a guy yesterday. The boat has been found……notice I said boat, and not motor. Yup, the boat was left to float down the river. It was found pulled up in the weeds above putnam dam. The guy that pulled it up on shore stopped by here this morning to let me know it was there. He said it was stuck on a logjam and he pulled it off and put it on shore and saw the Everts Resort name on it. Thanks to you! As far as the rest of the boat….they took the motor, 3 anchors, 2 oars, 4 life jackets, one seat cushion, ropes….everything! I know I could think of a good use for 3 anchors and ropes right now!!!!!!
From what I can figure out, they had to of unloaded the boat at the Wisconsin backchannel and let it drift away and thats how it ended up where it did. So the only landing b/w here and where the boat was found is that one. The time frame when they would have done this would have been around 9-930 pm I believe on Sunday night. They were driving a small 4 door car..light in color (if I remember right). It had no muffler, very loud.
I heard there was a boat stolen in prescott the same night. And there has been numerous thefts in Red Wing from what I hear. Please help out your fellow fisherman/sportsmen. Keep an eye out! Thanks guys!
July 22, 2003 at 5:39 pm #271242hey steve, i saw you last night towing the boat back through the back cut. i was the one in the little camo boat you met coming around the turn by hole-in-the-wall. i noticed there was no motor, i was hoping you took it off to tow it back or something.
anyway….good luck in your continued search, and i’ll keep my eyes open .
