I might get a chance to hit Pool 2 this weekend. Has anyone tried the Mississippi between the Ford Dam and the MN River? Thanks in advance.

I was out last Saturday. Caught fish on cranks in the evening right around the Hwy 5 bridge. 1/2 walleyes in channel and 1/2 tight to the shore. Smallies and cats mixed in too. Same action as all summer, low flow right now and the water is still pretty warm.

Hey Dave, long time no chat.

I’m headed down on Sat evening. Are you going to be out there? What colors are you still hitting them on? Are you trolling pretty fast? I know a month or so ago the action seemed to pick up when I got over 3 m.p.h. Let me know what your plans are. Maybe we can hook up for a barley pop afterwards.

    Good Fishing,

I may on Sat. My wife is working so I may be watching my little girl. I have only been using firetiger suspending rattling shap raps of late (that was all they had last time I needed to restock). Last 2 times out I have gotten a 20lb flathead and a 5-8lb channel and a couple of smaller cats on the rattling sr’s. Nice bonus-man do the cat smack those things.

I was only out for a couple of hours after on Sat so I didnt experiment too much. I have been focusing on the strong current and trolling a good walking pace against the shore (probably 2-5 mph). Fish still seem scattered, so covering ground seems to be more important.

Thanks. The smallies and white bass were in the channel directly below the Ford Dam – big time – 2 Saturdays ago chasing schools of bait fish and then they were gone the following day ….guess they are around.
