I saw a 6# Brown trout caught off the Evert’s dock by Steve Vick a few years ago. I’ll bet there are some whoppers lurking in Pepin.

I’ve caught 2 or 3 of them over the last 20 years by Dresbach. The two that I remember for sure were browns. One was about a 13-14 incher and the other was probably only 10″.

I have seen a few trout caught in the winter below L&D 11 at Dubuque. I believe they were all browns. From Dubuque north on the Iowa side of the river just about every hollow either has a trout stream or small river capable of sustaining trout. All these drain into the Mississippi and some of these trout get washed down into the river. Browns can tollerate higher water temps than the rainbows and brook trout do so it makes sense that a few trout could survive in the big river.

The wife caught a 16 inch brookie in the Lynxville pond. Rare but not unheard of to catch them out on the river.

Congrats on the rare catch. Just to chime in on Trout on the Miss stories, I saw none other than Mr. Holst and Mr. Stewart fishing together on pool 4 when they stuck a piggie of a trout, looked like a brown. I think they posted it as well. It surprised them and us, I wasn’t reaching for my flyrod though.

I have caught 2 brown trout in pool 5 before. One was 15″ or so and the other was 11″. It is very surprising when you pull one of them up in the Miss.
