    Leinieman,

I have not heard anything on the lake bite your best bet is to fish the main river. The bite is starting to really pick up from weeks past with a 2 man limit of legal eye’s becoming a reality again instead of wishfull thinking with 3 man limits possible. I was on the water all last week and the end of the week the fishing was very good rigging crawlers and some guys are doing ok with leeches. There does not seem to be a magic depth but the key is to fish the subtle breaks that drop off into the river channel.

    See ya on the river!

The word I’m hearing about Pepin is that a guy can pick up some sauger running 3 -ways and leeches on a plain rig or on a floater. No big ones though…. mostly 15″ -16″ stuff. Buddies tell me the walleye have been Slooooooooowwwwww. Usually once we get through September then we see a marked increase in the quality and quantity of the walleye coming from Pepin.

    Dustin,

Thanks for the info, Are the areas you are having luck on have considerable amount of current on these subtle breaks in depth?

    Thanks,

The river itself does not have a lot of current anywere. The best way to go about it is to fish the frst major break in to the river channel on your favorite sand flats and the tips of dams rigging slowly upstream has produced the best for me concentrating most of my efforts on the subtle drop offs for numbers of fish. In the next few weeks the fish should start showing up shallower again so never under estimate the shallower water before moving on to a different spot it would be a good idea to check the shallows before moving on. I took some good fish casting cranks shallow last week, but the timing has to be right. For now if you are looking for numbers stick to the main channel drops.

    See ya on the river!

Thanks for the info guys. I’ll be hitting the Chippewa Sat. evening and possibly early Sunday am and will post a message.I have a few favorite spots close to home to hit that usually start to produce well from shore this time of year. I hear possible frost this weekend. That should help with the mosquittoes. This Friday is last day of work for 6 weeks so I plan on fishing as much as possible, some bow hunting, and cutting a lot of firewood. I plan on fishing Pepin, and Miss during the week. How’s the ship traffic been lately. Anyone need someone else to shoot the bull with during this time let me know and I’ll post up which days that I have room in my rig if anyone wants to go out with a Miss. River Pool 4 rookie.

The large boat traffic is about down to nothing but with the MWC this coming weekend a guy can count on a lot of fishing rigs pretty much where ever you might want to go. By Sunday evening however that will be a memory and the river will pretty much be left to the few of us that fish into October.
