A few of us in the Frontenac Sportsman’s Club are going to bring up at the 7/14 meeting about starting up a summer walleye league in 2004. I will be asking the club to sponsor this type of event. I have been in contact with the DNR and we can do this as long as we do not have more than 30 boats total in the league. So far the idea is this:

1)We would do the league on Friday Evenings probably from 6:00 PM to dark (not totally sure yet on times)It would be a very casual event and if you couldn’t start at the designated time, start when you could.

2)Cost would be minimal at the beginning of the year and would be 100% payback

3)We would do this for 12 consecutive Fridays and would take the top 6 weekly weights of each team out of the 12 weeks (that way you only have to fish 6 of 12 weeks if you wanted)

    4) You can weigh in only 2 fish per week. The winners would be determined by total weight out of the top 6 weights from your team during the 12 week period. Trophies probably would be awarded to the top team and probably to the Big Fish. I would imagine a monetary prize also.

    5) Probably, but not necessarily run this out of Lake City somewhere or possibly Frontenac

These are just some preliminary thoughts. We are looking to you all whom might be interested to give some ideas / suggestions, and basically to see if everyone would like something like this. Heck, bowlers do it so it’s time for us walleye guys to do something also!!

Let me know what you guys think!! Jimmy Siewert

I have seen this on quite a few other lakes (especially western Minnesota) and they have an absolute ball. Just a low key way to get out there and have some fun with minimal competitive aspects involved.

I belong to the Happy Hookers Fishing Club, “headquartered” in No. St. Paul. We do something similar to what you are talking about, but we fish many different lakes in MN and WI. If I can be of any help to you as far as how we operate things, send me a PM.

An absolutely GREAT idea! I have been thinking/wishing of this for several years. If you need any help organizing this let me know, I would be more than willing to help.I only have a couple of questions. Do I need “special” shoes and how can we incorporate a beer frame?
See you on the 14th DG
