the fishing can be good at times near where i live (not currently that good-VERY high flows, VERY dirty water)-but i/we like to get out and fish different waters from time to time. the water clarity is way better the further north you go coupled with lower flows and the chance of stumbling into smallmouth and numerous stripers (anytime of the year) is always an added bonus. why do you ask?

I was wondering about the fishing on the Mississippi around Iowa/Illinois myself. Seem to see alot of boats on pools 4-5 this time of year from Iowa/Illinois. Granted Lake Pepin probably helps the fishery up this way.

Sounds like a fun time. I make at least one trip up to Alma every year and we fish pools 4, 5 & 5A. However if you are looking for walleye action in another 10 days I wouldn’t stray too-far from eastern Iowa. The spawn is winding down here in the DBQ area, the river is dropping and the water is not muddy. Walleyes are being caught and the bite should only get better in the days to come. The WAT tournament was held in Bellevue this past Sunday and lots of walleyes made it to the weigh-in. Most were caught pulling double rapalas through a spawning area several miles downstream from the dam at Bellevue. In 10 days you will find more and more fish on wingdams and other structure and they will be hungry. If the river continues to drop at the rate it has been it will be in darn near perfect condition in 10 days. I am making a trip up to pool 9 and an annual camping expedition with a group of friends next Wednesday. We head up the last week of April every year. Last year we had the best walleye fishing we have ever had on our trip and the lion’s share of the fish were caught casting crankbaits.
