Here is a quick report for ya. The river did not come up nearly as much as predicted after all the rain up north. The river is at 7.3 and is projected to go up to 7.8 on Wednesday and Thursday. For reference, that puts the water up on the rip-rap in front of the cabins a foot or so. I honestly haven’t seen many people fishing this end of pool 4 recently so I don’t have much to go on. I do know that there is a good bite right in front of the resort for walleyes….particularily off my docks! There has been a ton of 12-15 inch walleyes being caught here this past week. An occasional 17-19 inch fish is showing up as well here. The dam area just hasn’t been fished that much at all lately for the most part. I know of a couple people that have gone up there and they caught “a couple” nice fish. The largest going 22-23 inches. The rip-rap shorelines seems to be the best still. The smallmouth have been biting pretty good up here as well. If you find a little current break/eddy where baitfish have schooled up, you will probably find smallies. Rattle traps have been the best bait….due to the low visibility. If it rattles, it will probably work! The few people out fishing catfish are having fair to good success. Again…not many people out, but they are still getting a fair amount. I’m not sure where they are in the spawn. The channels must be in full swing or close to done. Maybe somebody can confirm/or prove me wrong…… As far as flatheads go, I haven’t been out after them in a couple weeks. Last time I was out, Mavzer and I had 3 on and landed one. Lost one at the boat and never saw the other one. According to Dirk W. the flatheads have been going good “somewhere”. (Check out the catfish forum).

The river is relatively free of debris, although I have seen an occasional large sized log come downstream. I have noticed a few mayflies the last few days. The first hatch probably isn’t that far away.

The white bass seem to be a little spotty on this end of the river. Some people are finding pockets of them, but they are running on the small side right now from what I have been hearing. Oh ya, I have heard a couple reports of a good crappie bite in the flooded timber in the backwaters here also.

All in all…..nothing to get too excited about as far as a hot bite, but if you’re looking to head up this way, you can probably find something willing to give you a tug on the line. Good Luck to all!
