Another quick little report on Pool 4. What a great day to be on the water….fish and weather wise. It started off a little tricky around 11 that morning, couldn’t get the moter started….tripped my killswitch without knowing and flooded the motor and almost killed the battery before checking/knowing to check .
First off, thanks to Dean for hooking us up with the right stuff. Firecracker paddle tails on the orange/chart. precision jig head was the big hit in my boat. For how finicky the fish were, an all chart. precision jig with the firecracker paddle tail would not produce as well as the above mentioned combo. So thanks for the tip and filling up my tackle box
But out of three guys, we had a 37 fish day, with 4 coming on a 1/4 ounce chart/lime jig tipped w/minnow; and the rest on the jig/paddle tail combo. From 11:30a.m. to about 5pm, vertical jigging was working well (with temporary shut-off times with the barges) . We finished the evening dragging around, picking a couple more up that evening. We primarily hung out in the Locke portion of the river, staying in 21 to 23 feet of water until later that evening moving up to 15-18′. Biggest fish were two 19.5″ sauger, with the remaining fish in the 15-18″ range. Only 3 walleyes were caught. We each kept three eaters (16″ers) range for a meal.
Really impressed with all the catch release of fish down there . Most of the fish had some spawning to do yet. Good times.
