Hey guys (and gals), I am taking the boat out tomorrow and this weekend and am looking for some ideas as to where I should try. I am trying to determine whether to fish pool 7, 8, or 9. I fished Tremp last Sunday and was unsuccessful. Any insight you can provide would be much appriciated. I am just looking to get into some Walleye or Sauger action.

Oddly enough, Bret and I were just talking about the bite for this weekend. There hasn’t been hardly anyone out. Reports will be tough to come by.

My thoughts were slow, deep and bring some live bait.

I checked the water temp, and it’s dropped to 37°. It was 42°.

Good luck if you head out.

For how fast pool 8 is now I would imagine pool 9 to be really moving along. I found a alright sauger bite on pool 8 Tuesday evening and would think there are still some takers out there. 13fow and a current seem using a jig/twister tail tipped with a minnow was producing fish for me. Another key is, the surface is moving faster than the water below, try to match the current below and keep that jig vertical.

Anyone have a recent report on pool 5 or 5A?

Thanks for the information guys. I will probably end up drowning a few minnows below Dresbach.

Blue, I need to get a hold of you one of these days. I have some equipment to drop off for ARM. Gary suggested I get it to you.

Well, it wouldn’t be the first time I have been skunked on the Mississippi. Still haven’t figured out how to fish these heavy current rivers. I am used to resevoirs such as the Missourri (Lake Oahe).

Early morning before boat traffic the fish are normally pushed out to the sides. I have found 11-13fow holding fish. Also pitching to the shore on the sand is producing fish. Later in the day as the traffic pics up I like to move out. Even with the current there are fish in the channel and along the edge of the channel. Use your trolling motor to slow your drift down because the surface is moving faster than the water below the surface.
With the water temp dropping like it did meat will help. I plan on Starting with Super Doos tipped with a minnow and hair jigs tipped with a minnow

Great information. Are you just dragging the current seam or working the jigs?

I will start with a lift drop motion if there is not a reaction I will hold my jig off bottom and try drifting through. The other night they wanted some action to the jig. Chartreuse jig and twister tail tipped with a minnow produced some nice saugers. I’m starting tomorrow with the Chartreus Pepper Super Doo tipped with a minnow.

I just checked the weather, looks like we are going to need to wear the wool undies tomorrow.
