Made a quick trip out lat night. As far as the fishing goes not much has semed to changed. Didnt find a thing in the few hours last night. As far as water conditions go it looks great. What is up a little bit higher. Not a ton of garbage floating around so fishing most areas is pretty easy. Water temps where in the low 40s. With these conditions you would think something has got to give on the fishing soon.

Good to hear the garbage has cleared up I have fished down there 4 – 5 different times in the past couple of weeks live bait and plastics, and nothing to show for. Sooner or later things have to start shaping up. If the rain would ever let up I was going out this afternoon.
March 30, 2007 at 3:18 pm #555119What was the water clairity like? Maybe somethoing to do with it?
Tyler and I were out this past Saturday and he caught the only fish pitching, a 23″er.
Had a chance to say hello to the local CO’s also.
March 30, 2007 at 3:51 pm #555139Hey Mike you went fishing in my Pool and didn’t ask me??? Just kidding. We’re you able to hit some of those spots up in the bushes or were you out on the wingdams? I haven’t been on the water in a while but it looks like the current is really cooking right now.
Francis, tell Tyler he’s one of the few guys to catch anything down there this spring. He’s pretty good, isn’t he? If you don’t mind me asking what kind of spot did you find that fish in?
Thanks guys

March 30, 2007 at 3:58 pm #555144Steve, we were in a community spot above the confluence pitching towards shore to the current seam. 5′ of water at best.
March 30, 2007 at 9:40 pm #555236I have been down a couple times in the last week and it looks to be shaping up nice for another good spring No fish here either. Had one foul hooked fish the other day “carp” but thats been it. This rain today and tomorrow should get the ol miss moving pretty good . Hope it holds a bit I love the highwater bite and after this fall I am ready as ever!!! Good luck this weekend guys!!! Hope to see some good reports in the next few weeks.
March 30, 2007 at 10:14 pm #555247I’ll be getting out this weekend, finally!! I plan on working some previous spring favorites and see if I’ll have anything to show for it.
I hope to be able to post some better results because of improving conditions. It certainly won’t be because of my fishing prowess.March 30, 2007 at 10:33 pm #555254Looks like I will be down there again sunday morning. Might be a minnow day on monday.
March 31, 2007 at 1:35 pm #555337Everyone talks about the high water bite being great on the Miss but I always struggle. Is it just as easy as moving toward the shoreline structure and current breaks? Are there any articles on high water fishing and if not maybe someone should write one.
March 31, 2007 at 3:43 pm #555402Here is my take on the high water bite. High muddy water is not great conditions for walleyes to feed in. They cant see there prey very well and there is a good chance it is moving past them down stream pretty fast. Along with this water temps are on the rise and this is making the fish ‘s metabolism increase. Another factor is the fish are having a harder time holding in the faster current. This tends to move them to predictable areas of slower current and breaks. Put the three together and you have hungry walleyes concentrated in small areas that are waiting to smack anything that comes by to see if its food or not. Easy enough. Now you just need to find them.
Moving towards shore can be a good start. Look for current breaks, larger areas of slower water and maybe areas made up of many smaller current breaks such as shallow rocky areas and current swept wood. Some of these areas will be real shallow. Pitching with in a foot of shore is very common.
When starting out high water fishing you will most likely spend a fair amount of time checking these areas. Time on the water should put a number of high percentage spots together for you and then you can spend less time looking and hopefully more time catching.
The main approaches I us during high water are pitching various jigs with hair or plastics on them, pitching crank baits and trolling crank baits. These fish tend to be hungry so don’t be afraid to experiment. Also make sure and throw some variety at them. I very rarely fish just one lure on one area. Most places it is at least three before I feel the area has been check over well.
On pool 2 it seems to me that prime time high water fishing takes place in may and june. That may just be when the water temps get high enough to get the walleyes really chewing. In the next few weeks I plan to start checking some of the areas I have found in the past and see whats happening.
