I was wondering if someone could describe the technique used to achor at a wing dam. Where do you want the boat to sit with respect to the wing dam? Where do you drop anchor? How much line on the achor do you let out? What kind of achor do you prefer and do you use more than one?

I have gotten breached across a wing dam a couple of times with my old boat. Always fun trying to rock that baby of the wing dam.

    Thanks

I’ve always anchored quite aways up stream of the wing dam and eased down to it with the rope. Then you can use your motor by turning it one way or another to cover a lot of the face of the dam. You can also change your position some by tieing off to one side or other of the bow.

Another great resource to wingdam fishing (including the anchoring) is the video that James and Dustin put out this spring. It focuses on wingdams and rip-rap shorelines. I have the video in the bait shop here ($25). You can also purchase it from the EFN outlet store. I know it’s not “prime” time for the wingdams, but they have been producing fish in all of the pools as of late it sounds like. Good Luck.
