Nice to meet everyone last weekend for the WWA Pool 9 tourney. What a beautiful area, as they call it God’s country!

If anyone ever wanted to see what a great bait shop looks like check out Mississippi Sport and Recreation in DeSoto WI, man oh’ man what a selection of jigs, they made Gander Moutain look weak! there is so much more than the standard old boring round headed jig, when it comes to fishing jigs.

***A three day World Walleye Association championship is coming to the St. Croix River and will be held on Septemebr 27, 28, and 29th. To date this tournament will be the biggest tourney (prize money)that’s come to town (the St. Croix). I believe that weigh in’s will be held in Stillwater, and it’s going to be interesting, I’m very excited to see how other anglers approach the area, and fish the river. Billy Mitchell, Lakeland,MN and myself will be in the tourney and hoping to do well.

    Keep catchin’

Turk, How many boats are in this event? Is pool 3 going to be opened for the tournament? Per our conversation at the FTR get together, I believe something like this can be very good for our community, especially for you guys that make a living on the river. You’ll do well! Keep it vertical.

The contest will be held on thur., fri., and sat., which is also the day of the river rat tourney. The WWA field will be about 50 boats or more. The weigh in site will be the levy in downtown stillh2o at approx. 3:00 pm. The entry qualifications were that you had to fish a WWA tourney in wisc. or minn. and and weigh at least one fish. Turk and I went to pool 9 and got a lesson on sat. but recovered in time to weigh 3 fish for 9.0 lbs on sun.

You folks did fine and it was great to meet you guys. That was one of the toughest bites you will find , much like it was down at Dubuque. Lawrence

I know that sounded kinda “festive”, but I was only kidding Turk!!Mountain man if you haven’t already tried, contact Steve Poll at 920-924-2100 and make yourself available he might ahave some info. I was that funny looking guy talking to Steve when you came in to weigh in. I’m sure he knows I am available, he and I had the pleasure of winning a boat together a couple years ago. Lawrence

Thirty-one are preregistered- that is twice what usually preregisters-Fishhunt58 – is getting calls on a constant basis and has had people mainly asking where the meeting is and if they can sign up there. I am a member of “Walleye Searchers” the club that runs it each year. This year I have volunteered to to MC the event- Tony and I will be out fishing , but not entered. I need to be there in early afternoon both days so it would be hard to leave a good bite and I don’t want to have to make that choice, so I am just MCing. Lawrence

What does it take to get involved in these specific tourneys? I have friends that fish many tournaments in western MN, so they occasionally ask me to fish them. I love fishing tournaments, but I have no contacts down here. Which ones are open and are there any pro-ams? What does it take to get into a pro-am?

Thanks for any info. I realize this year is probably dead for new comers, but just curious.

    Bill,

Your statement regarding qualification for the WWA Team Challenge National Championship Tournament is inaccurate. You state that the entry qualification was to fish one tournament in WI or MN and catch one fish.

Under the rules of the WWA Team Challenge a team must finish the divisional qualifying tournaments as one of the top 30 teams in their division, by points, to be automatically invited to the Team Challenge National Championship. In the Minnesota division the 30th place team had 1578 points. You cannot accumulate that amount of points by fishing one tournament and catching one fish. However, the Wisconsin/Illinois division is the WWA’s smallest division. If a team was to declare the WI/IL division as their home division and fish one tournament and catch one fish you were pretty much guaranteed an invitation to Nationals. This is due to the low volume of teams.

I just wanted to clear the air on this issue as rumors are circulating in the Minnesota division regarding the one tournament/one fish qualification.

Lastly, the St. Croix has been off-limits to all qualifiers since September 8, 2001. The off-limits period is from September 8, 2001 until sunrise September 22, 2001. This off-limit period is in force to equal the playing field for out-of-state teams. Any qualifying team members that are on or fishing the St. Croix during this time will be disqualified from the National Championship.

Sorry, I hope I didn’t cause any undue confusion. Half of what you said, I heard. All I know is that we’re in and good luck to all who enter, I hope theres a good turnout/weather.
