Was out on 5A Thursday and did nothing…couple of short bites and that was it. Anyone else fished 5A with any success in the last week?

Where abouts were you fishing on 5A? I’m thinking of heading down next Sunday for the first time this year. I usually fish 5A mid to late April! Is the channel open by Fountain City?

Welcome to the site Catch1 Congrats on the new water ride. Shore fishing can be a lot of fun and less difficult at times but being able to get to places that you look at from the shore that you’ve always wanted to fish is priceless Good luck to you and your son

By the way, The upper ramp is open, The bay still had some ice on it yet. That should be gone soon. Doug

The “launch” on the beach by the fuel dock at Bass Camp is open and the river is very fishable. The water looked to have dropped between Sat and Sun although I was not on the water Sat. I put in at 8:30AM Sunday and 2 of us had a limit by 11:00AM.

We fished mostly shallow water, less than 20′ around the dam area. I only saw about 4 other boats but not many fish being caught. My fish came on jigs and live bait rigs. I hope to be out again next weekend – it should only get better. The best fish was 19″ and the smallest take home was a 14.5″ sauger – nice eaters.
