first the good news. the ramp below lock 18 is open.
but … the river came up about 6 inches overnight and is expected to rise at least 3 feet over the next 24 hours with runoff from the weekend rain/snow/ice. all of the feeder streams in the area – pope creek, edwards river and henderson creek – are dropping some but still above flood stage.
so the big river likely will keep rising for a while.
i would assume new boston is still iced in but dont know about muscatine.
had been planning on going this weekend. am going to duck out of work early thursday to take a look at lock 18.
as long as the flow isnt too strong and the ices floes too bad, i might give it a shot.
ive seen a few walleyes and saugers caught in high water conditions.

Just got our power back today so I really don’t know whats been going on. I’ve been thinking about taking a ride over to New Boston to see if the ramps open. Getting the itch to get back out.

No ice at the ramp in New Boston or below the dam today. There is ice above the dam and rising waters may push it over this weekend so there may be ice in the flow then, but none today. 1 boat fishing below the dam today.

They pulled the dam up some today and the ice above is starting to going thru now. Lots of big chunks of ice flowing now. River is at 7.00 and they are expecting it to be 8.6 to 8.8 in the morning.

Thanks for the updates on the river conditions. Looks like I’ll have to work around the yard a few more days.
