Started out up by the dam pitching plastic along the sand in 6 to 10 feet. Caught 1 Walleye around 18″. Lost 2 others. Caught the 1 fish on a sassy shad. Tried vertical and dragging with no luck. Moved down by the Y, No fish. Went down to Hay Creek. We caught fish on every pass except one. Key was 22.5 to 24 feet of water. Used super doo’s in Chartruse/White and Berkley gulp. Caught around 30 fish. Kept 9 for the pan. Mostly all Sauger in the 16 to 19 inch range.
It was just w GREAT day to be on the water. Better than a good day at work.

Really slow for my boat on 2-21-07. Got on the river about 7:30am, spent my day casting sand and some rock for some of those big mama eye’s. At 1:00pm we started dragging ringworms that put a few walleye and sauger in the boat but then the North wind picked up and made that a hard way to fish.

Got in to some Smallmouth though. First time that I have ever caught more smallmouth in a day on the river in mid February than I have walleye or sauger. Maybe this guy had something to do with it .

It was fun sharing my boat with you John. Now when you take me bass fishing in August/September this means we are going to catch more walleye than bass. Right??

    Dustin,

Thanks for the ride, even though the day was tough I had a ball! I’m sure we could have done better out deep but I love to probe the high risk/hog potential spots. We’ll smack some smallies this summer!
