February 9, 2007 at 4:19 pm #534881So pretty much stock up on everything huh lol…got my color powder paints alread have black , orange, white, lime, chartruse, firecracker any other suggestions was hoping to stay basic but always seem to go over load on things
jhalfenPosts: 4179February 9, 2007 at 4:23 pm #534885I’ve aways been a big fan of pink/pink pearl. Been trying to get BFT to stock these again but hasn’t worked out yet. So, I powdertec my own.
February 9, 2007 at 4:30 pm #534889When your powdering yours do you go all pink than re hear enough to get it warm but not melting get some of the powder to stick for the color pearl than lightly warm it to melt it..or do you just dip in pink than quick dip to the pearl? confusing to type that hope you understand what I mean I usually get my main base than re heat a bit to get the secondary layer on
February 9, 2007 at 4:57 pm #534899Pitching I go thru more 3/16th than any other size combined I bet. Usually you wont go thru many 1/8th or lighter because they rarelly hang up to bad. During high water in spring 5/16 is about as heavy of a hair I have used and that was in some fast water but did the trick.

Erick, this is pretty much what I do for any two-tone application…but to be perfectly honest I don’t do two-tone all that often.
Pink with a splash of red….now there’s another winner.
February 10, 2007 at 12:49 am #535073For pitching, 1/16oz to 3/16oz work best in most situations. The occasional windy day, or deeper water current break, you might have to go up to a a 3/8oz.
Vertical jigging, 1/4oz 5/16oz and 3/8oz will do the trick.
I would begin by getting all jig sizes up to 3/8oz to cover all situations and stick with 4 colors to start, unless you are really looking to stock up
Best 4 colors in my opinion are black, orange/chartreuse, sour apple and plain lead.
I tie my own hair jigs with the precision heads as well. They work great for hair. I just clip off the wire keeper and tie away.
February 10, 2007 at 5:30 pm #535226What i do for 2 tone or even 3 tone…….use a small paint brush that you would find with water color set for kids or another similar type brush…maybe a little bushier….but what i do is say, i want to do a orange and black..i heat the jig head then dip it into the orange for a base coat,,,then i heat it up to melt the orange..after that i dip the brush in the black and then lightly tap the brush to sprinkle it on the jig…after getting the coverage you need reheat the jig to melt the black……there you go..looks like they are airbrushed…
February 19, 2007 at 2:50 am #538607Just an update did a bunch of jigs up today and did some experimenting and point that sprinkling on the powder instead of just dipping in the secondary color makes it look SWEET!!!! Like stated in another reply on this topic it maies it looked airbrushed and I must say it infact does!! The black base with orange sprinkled on looks deadly for June eyes shallow draggin leaches in the back channel
February 20, 2007 at 1:28 pm #539166Glad you liked the look of the jigs….sprinkling the powder really does have a beautiful look to them and easy to do…been doing it for years now, after the manufacturer of the powder pait told me how to do it……..you can do all kinds of color combinations,,,,have fun experimenting,,,,,,
