K-grub troubles

I noticed earlier this spring and again last night when I was out that when using the 4-inch K-grubs about every other cast my jig comes back with the hook stuck in the tail. Doesn’t matter if I’m vertical jigging or casting to shore. So half the time I end up fishing with a big ball of plastic on the end of my line.

Am I doing something incorrectly or does anyone have any remedies for this?

I’ve had this happen too with various plastics. I don’t know if this is what you should do but I lessened the # of incidents by re-rigging with a jig that had a shorter shank on the hook. By putting the hook closer to the front it has helped me reduce the number of “snags”.

    Sammy,

One little tip that may help you out when rigging these K-grubs may be to thread the tail on the jig with the curl of the tail away from the hook gap. This will insure better action as well as decreased number of “tail snagging”.
Also, as always after threading the tail on your jig, you should end up with the hook coming out in the very center of the lure. If it is not in the center, you will be have the plastic spinning in the water which looks very unnatural!!

Oh sure DeeZee…we all know how “natural” a giant grub w/ a 4″ twister tail looks. I see them on the Miss all the time!

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I was using a longer-shanked jig to better fit the longer, bigger plastics. But I’ll give the shorter ones a try. I’ll also make sure to thread the curl of the tail away from the hook.

Have a great weekend on the water.
