Will the high water push the spawned out walleyes down river into the lake or will they still hang around their spawning areas. I FINALLY got the boat I mentioned about a month ago. I would like to take it out on Lake Pepin this coming weekend. I was just curious if I would see any of the fish that were up near the dam this spring or would I just be seeing the fish that hung around in the lake all year. If there are some, where and how would you recommend? The weather, as of today, looks to be sunny and decent on Saturday. Would love to have a good day in my new boat and catch some eyes on my first homemade hair jigs. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am sure you will get lots of responses on this from the hitters this week with the LPO being this weekend. LOL
I would guess with some sunshine and stable weather the bite should only improve from what its been the last week.
You will have lots of company on pool 4 and Pepin this weekend. Good luck and congrats on the new boat.
I should mention I was on pool 3 this past Saturday and it was pretty slow with only 4 small fish coming in the boat.
Watch out for debris coming down river. It’s out there.April 22, 2003 at 3:15 pm #264845Good point Dman. I never thought of that. LOL. Well thank YOU for the input. I will be out there regardless and hope to find a few decent fish. A private message would work guys. I am not in the tourney. If I am lying may the fishing GOD strike me down where I launch. Please, if you have any ideas for me, just send me a private message. My lips are sealed. Good luck to all who are in the Open this weekend.

The spawning grounds will still have some fish on them. Start your search closer to the shorelines in the same areas that you were getting fish before the river started coming up. I spent some time in the dam area on the last outing but not a lot of fish to show for my efforts . The bottom part of the river in the head of the lake area, has been putting out a few fish but not in big numbers. The fish are really spread out right now with some fish in post spawn and others still yet to spawn. A lot of fish are doing a lot of different things right now. Some nice fish have been taken, but not in the numbers of weeks past.
Good luck on your outing and congrats on your new boat
April 22, 2003 at 6:18 pm #264862There have been a ton of big walleyes caught in the sherwood forest by the dam…….and at……the ummm…..big apple tree…….I would also try the area around the rainbow Well somewhere in there anyway. Actually Dustin’s response was right on. The fish are really spread out right now. The rollers were also lifted out of the water at the dam this morning. That will change things a bunch and look out for the floating debris…there is a ton of it! Good Luck to all.
April 23, 2003 at 2:42 pm #264929Thanks to those who sent me a private message with ideas. Also, do you all think the debris in the river/lake will be less by Saturday? I am thinking about hitting shallow rock points and wingdams. Riprap? Just brainstorming here. Hairjigs do the trick? Plastics? Livebait? Any answers or insight you have could be in the from of a PM. Thanks again.
April 24, 2003 at 1:49 pm #265015You will always get the straight info here regardless of tournaments. You may not get exact spots, but that too can work to your benifet. Look for current breaks, shoreline structure, etc. Look at H2O’s post on pulling 3-ways and cranks. He is right on the money, and has made a lot of money doing what he says.
