Here are a few photos from tonight. No pigs for me but a couple of real fatties. Looks like the bite is coming around again on pool 2. Cant beat this weather either.

Handle that last one gently. Shes about to blow. Pretty fat for a 23″ fish.
One more.December 29, 2006 at 5:02 am #516252I was out with DeeZee tonight and we were SHOCKED by the girth these walleyes are displaying. We had a fish tonight that pulled the digital to 8.7 Lbs and I doubt it would have taped 26 inches.
All in all we had a great night although the bite could be best described as streaky with lulls that lasted for 20 – 30 minutes followed by a hot streak when we would QUICKLY land 3 – 5 fish. We had a nice bunch of 5 – 7 lb fish tonight along with a bunch of 18″ – 20″ shakers that would be considered nice fish on any other body of water.
Early Steve had the hot hand with an oystershell ringie and I finished strong down the stretch with a catalpa orange chartreuse tail ringie that was taking a fish consistently when other colors tried went cold.
I think you were right ahead of us headed downstream from the 494 bridge as DeeZee and I called it a night.
December 29, 2006 at 5:02 am #516248Looks like I need to work on my photos while alone in the boat.
Didnt find any real color pattern tonight. BFT ringies and K grubs both took fish. 3/32 ounce jigs and working over proven spots real slow. A pause or drop of the jig seemed to be key to get the fish to bite. Still had to work for these fish but the bite has seemed to improve a lot from the last couple of weeks.December 29, 2006 at 5:03 am #516255Thanks for the report, Mike. I was wondering how you did so I was hoping you were going to throw up a report. Any hot colors for you on the evening?
December 29, 2006 at 5:06 am #516256We tried K-grubs to a limited degree but didn’t get them to click for us. I stopped using them after we started seeing a preference for shortened ringies. Pinching off at 2 rings below the head seemed about right. I lost 4 consecutive fish that aimed for that ‘purty tail and missed the jig head right before we made the adjustment. Shortening up that little bit seemed to solve the issue altogether.

I don’t know Mike, that first fish looks like it is about to explode! If you were trying to show the girth that fish has… you succeeded.
Ever try one of those tiny tripods for one man photo sessions in the boat?
December 29, 2006 at 5:25 am #516260Here’s a few from our night out. Thanks Steve. It felt darn good to get out of the office and back out in the boat.
This one’s Steve’s 8.7 Lb walleye. This one came on an oystershell ringie if memory serves.
December 29, 2006 at 5:26 am #516261Here’s my first fish of the night. This one came on a chartreuse pepper ringie… I think this was the only fish we caught all night on that color.
December 29, 2006 at 5:26 am #516262Still trying to master my digital camera. Maybe mastering a tripod will be one of my goals for next year.
Didnt really find a color pattern tonight. What seemed to be key was fishing spots that I had a good idea where holding fish. Then working over those areas with the right retrieve. I would slowly retrieve my lures over the spot and make some pauses to allow the jig to drop. The fish would hit on the drop. What a blast. That smack of the jig is top notch in my book.December 29, 2006 at 5:29 am #516266Last one… and then I need to get some work done. Thanks again, Steve. A night out on the river is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered for this guy!

Definitely! The fish were on again – off again all night. If a guy wasn’t real patient you could blow in and back out of a spot between feeding windows and never even know the fish were there.
The forecast looks promising for some more afternoon trips out on Pool 2 in the next week or so. I’ll see you out there!
December 29, 2006 at 5:34 am #516268Never tried that color. Will have to add it to the mix. Nice fish guys.
You would never know I was breaking 4 to 5″ of ice out there just a few weeks ago. Love that forcast.December 29, 2006 at 10:49 am #516278WOW!! Those are chubby fish, they look like football with fins and a mouth
December 29, 2006 at 2:06 pm #516334mike, after this barrage of pictures and stories, I am real bummed I couldn’t make it out with you. I’ll be out of town for until the 5th unfortunately but hopefully mother nature decide to give us real winter yet. I’ll give you a shout when I get back.
micahDecember 29, 2006 at 3:25 pm #516371Nice fish gentlemen! I had no idea of the morbid obesity problem we had going on in Pool 2. Should we offer some Weight Watchers options for the ladies?
December 29, 2006 at 3:50 pm #516384We should get Koonce to name a new BFT ringie color Jenny Craig or some thing like that.
December 29, 2006 at 4:15 pm #516398You guys still amaze me. There actully are walleeyes down there. Somewhere….

Sure, what time should I be ready?
December 29, 2006 at 6:54 pm #516448Except you Steve. Your bad luck.
494 landing at 3.30. We may need to sage the boat and complete the fish dance before you go.
See you there.December 29, 2006 at 7:00 pm #516452I’ll comb my hair different so they won’t know it’s me.
See you at the ramp.
Steve
December 29, 2006 at 7:02 pm #516453You might have some company down there, boys…
Glad those fish haven’t lost any weight. I had a fish that was a little over 28″ hit the scale at 10 pounds 11 ounces a few weeks ago — the fish I bragged to you and Lip Ripper about, Mike. Fatty fat fat!!
December 30, 2006 at 3:15 am #516569Rootski caught some walleyes tonight. Way to go Steve. Looks like you are back on the right track now.
December 30, 2006 at 6:33 pm #516634Another great time out fishing with Mike! Here are a couple of the pigs that Mike brought to the boat. We got a little wet but it was worth it for fish like these.
