Walleye “Warts”???

Does anyone know what those warts are on a Walleye? Sometimes they go through the skin and into the meat of the fillet. I’ve seen them for years, but I nobody seems to know what causes them or really what they are….everyone just calls them warts. Should folks be throwing eaters back if they have warts ?
