Please welcome Ham Lake, MN resident Michael Westman (Mike W) to In-DepthAngling’s Field Staff.

Mike is an avid walleye fisherman, but frequently finds Silver Bass, Panfish, Catfish and Sturgeon on the end of his line. We’re all looking forward to your knowledge, passion and reports in the Mississippi, St Croix and Tournament forums Mike!

More about Mike, in his own words… ” My name is Michael Westman. I have been a avid angler since a young kid when my brother and I would spend our days dock fishing on long lake in Aitkin county, or casting spoons for pike in a row boat on a pot hole behind grandma’s house. All threw my teenage and young adult years the one constant activity in my life has been fishing.
About 5 years ago I found a local web site called “Fishtheriver.com”. As many of you know this was one of the early names for IDA. This site very quickly opened my eyes to a very large variety of fishing tips, locations, techniques and so much more. It also greatly added to my knowledge of catching walleyes which I spend most of my time chasing now.
Currently I live just north of MPLS and spend a fair amount of time on pool 2 of the Mississippi and the upper St. Croix. Other places you may find me fishing during the year are the Mille Lacs, upper Mississippi, Zihautanajo Mex. or where ever there is a good bite going on. You might even find me tournament fishing from time to time.

My goals with joining IDA’s Field Staff is to give back to the members what this site has shared with me. Knowledge about fishing and spending time on the water.”

Welcome to In-DepthAngling’s Field Staff Mike! We’ll be looking forward to more of your experiences on Pool 2 and the Upper St Croix River!

Thanks guys. Its been great to chat with and spend time on the water with so many of you guys in the last 5 years. This is a top notch site with a top notch group of people (members and staff) that make it that way. Looking forward to many more years of contributing to it.

If the weather allows most of my reports this winter will be coming from pool 2 chasing walleyes and saugers. As always feel free to ask me any questions you have about that area and I will do my best to share what I know.

Hope to see many of you on the water this winter and in the future.

Rootski. I seem to remember you put your own share of walleyes and saugers in the boat that day also. Its not to bad so far but in a few months I will really start missing Tee shirt days of fishing like in that photo.

Mike – well done. I hope to see you out on p2 this winter. If I could only figure out a way to work for myself full time so I could fish as much as you I would be set.
