well, well, well… I can see many of you were out there today!… anyway I had the great pleasure of sharing a boat with Mike Huppert owner of Fin-tech producer of the nuckle ball jig…. we had a great time pulling fish today and caught many saugers of decent size (biggest 20″)…. as seen in the attached picture… we started out down river in a place I could call big buffalo hole… (where Mike pulled that mondo buffalo out a couple of weeks ago)… the fish started out hot on purple ring worms early.. and as the sun got higher started in on Super Doos… but we were successful on a mix of ringworms and superdoos… the Doos were chartruese/pepper and the worms were various purples…. after we had caught a number of fish in our starting place we ran up to Hay creek and found some more fish.. snapping on Super Doos still…. then later in the afternoon we dropped down towards Coville and found a lively jig/minnow bite going…. I would estimate there was atleast 150 boats between hay creek and head of lake… and who knows how many up towards the dam… so pressure was heavy… but fishing was steady for us…. Im sure we caught on the plus side of 30 15″+ saugers…. all our walleyes were on the minus side…. we were fishing mostly 20+ feet….. deeper than 25 seemed to bring only small fish……

Also experienced similar sauger bite today on Pool 4. For a weekday it certainly seemed like a zoo. I was able to hold a consistent bite up near the dam until about 10 a.m., then the fish were farther and fewer between (opposite of the “fishermen density”). My fish were holding 16′ and 20′. Deeper would yield small “cigars”. A few decent saugers holding up shallower. All fish came on plastics.

there was plenty of fisher people out today… but if you were not stuck on the dam you could find some places not too crowded… I pulled fish on plastics all day until the last hole we visited.. that was a confirmed minnow bite and Mike was pulling saugs using his nuckle balls with minnows.. and I only had 2 light hits, missed both…..
and Im sure Ive talked about these nuckle ball jigs before…. but they are really GREAT!.. I use them trolling, casting and even vertical jiggin.. they are a perfect match for ringworms.. and if you use the method mike showed me for hooking the ringworms on they are pretty snagless too…. I have to admit I love these jigs… I dumped all my round jigs and fireballs…… and replaced them with these… now I have only 2 kinds of jigs….. and thats all I need!

Yes, I had the honor of sharing the boat with RiverEyes today. Ole Rivereyes is a master when it comes to plastics, just ask a question and he’ll usually will have a answer for you, at least a theory for sure. Here are a few pics of the master himself.

Today was really a great day to be on the water! I got to go fishing with a couple buddies and we really got into some nice fish.. I cought a nice 27 1/4 inch spawned out female …. steve cought a 27inch prespawn female… I also cought a nice 25 inch prespawn female and a several other nice sized fish… with a load of nice eating size fish as well… The key for us was pitching 1/8 oz plastic (chartuese pepper, gold flake) shallow….. I had a buddy with me that cought some nice eater sauger on minnows as well….. Great day on the water…. all of the fish came from the wisconsin back channel.
