Lilydale was frozen up today, Mike. But the 494 area was open, including the ramp.
December 5, 2006 at 2:49 pm #507175I drove over the high bridge this mourning & the river is frozen to downtown St. Paul.
December 5, 2006 at 4:35 pm #507220Miss is froze up too, at Hastings, as well as the Croix is frozen as far as the eye can see, both north and south of the 94 bridge.
December 6, 2006 at 4:34 pm #507750I went out last night and had to launch out of 494. To be honest I wasnt going to go after I seen the winds down there at 4pm. At about 6pm there was 0 wind so I hooked up the boat and off I went. The launch is now wide open and a few good wingdams. No fish but that was sorta my fault. After busting everything out of the launch area the whole river was one big mass of floating ice heading south. The area should be cleared as of now but will more than likely freeze up a bit after this next little cold spell. If it were daylight I think the area is very fishable but navagate with caution. There is lots of ice floating around!
Lions levee is totally froze over but I will go after it if conditions are right. Will keep updated on that location. Also was down at bayport yesterday and there is a solid sheet about 1 and a half to 2 inches of ice all the way across. Were going to need some time out there yet but sure was a nice base to start.Mike I will be back down at 494 by friday. I will be done about 4pm friday and might just head down to break some areas out for everyone looking to go saturday if needed. Also hoping I can get my launch cleared out down here in St Paul Park for this weekend but it might be too late
December 6, 2006 at 6:41 pm #507808You, my friend are an animal!
On my drive home last night, all I saw was ice shore to shore from downtown on past the airport. Figured P2 was done for a while. And tonight it’s suppose to get down close to zero.
Check out this link to a webcam. It shows pool 2 just south of downtown. (Camera in Mound PArk on the bluffs.) The airport is on the left. Looking at it now (1pm Wed 12/6) it’s still froze shore to shore!

December 7, 2006 at 2:45 pm #508131She was froze straight across this morning I will take a look at it tomorrow but if there is too much ice by then I might be out on the Croix this weekend. Digging out the ice shack tonight and charging the vex…. I will check it out tomorrow and report what I see.
December 7, 2006 at 9:49 pm #508365Keep us up dated Joe. Was thinking about trying to get out there Friday afternoon.
December 7, 2006 at 10:37 pm #508389Does anyone have the link to the webcam that used to be set up just up river from 494 or any others down there.
shaylaPosts: 1399December 8, 2006 at 3:44 am #508561Mike, I will do some digging to see if I can find the link, but in the meantime the wacouta bridge cam is on MnDot’s website. They shut it down last spring, not sure if it’s up and running again or not?
December 8, 2006 at 11:54 am #508594Here is the link to the Wakota bridge cam. ITs been not working for quite some time now, but you may want to bookmark it as it comes in handy whenever it does go back online. It is kind of neat to look back in the archives though.
I might wait until Sunday afternoon to get down to 494.
One of the bad things about having a low flow fall!
