Biting at Dresbach

Well I finnaly had a good day at Dresbach. We’ve been catching fish but almost all were too small, walleyes or saugers. I’ll try to attach a picture. These are all 15 or 16 inches except for that one baby, the fat one was just packed with shad. I assume they were shad. I used black, chartreuse, and purple jigs and had a black jig with a floating jig but never caught a fish on the floater. My jigs are made by a friend of mine from Desoto. I caught most the fish in 25 FOW. It was raining and got pretty windy by the time I got off the water. Caught several walleye but none big enough to even measure. There’s an awful lot of oil on the water at the landing; Sunday it was twice as bad. There was a barge locking through Sunday don’t know if it came from him.

I slipped out yesterday for a few hours and worked some sand and wingdams on the main channel near the Black River. I only picked up one fish but it was a real nice fat 24″ walleye on an 1/8 oz black precision jig and a purple ringworm with the pearl tail. I noticed also after a barge come down stream mid afternoon there was a large oil/gas slick as well in the water.

You guys are right on with that oil slick. The barge that left the lock around 2pm on sunday is gulty. I can’t believe they get away with that. They had a white ring around the edge of the tug but it didn’t do any good. Any one no who to tell about the problem to get any thing done about it.

DNR…if that don’t work call your local news station and see if they are interested…channel 9 here in the cities would love a story like that!

Tell somebody. Call the EPA if the DNR doesn’t want to do anything. There are definitely regulations on this. Are they leaking oil or just not burning efficiently or what? I don’t get it.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

Maybe they(EPA)should make those tow vessels meet Tier II emissions.Even the newest ones would not even come close. The thick black smoke comes from the old 4-cycle engine ones(turbo lag). Some also blow super-thick blue smoke, probably have bad power assemblies burning lube oil.

They should have shut-down the leaking one,and called for an assist vessel. They should clean-up whatever they discharged.I’m sure any one of us would be in deep doo-doo if we leaked gas/oil in the water.

Nice fish, been getting some really nice saugers here at D6.Some up to 21″,but not too many walters to speak of.
