WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED????
i was fishing on tuesday in 70deg. weather in a t-shirt. there were tons of boats out enjoying the day and enough fish for all to share. it’s was one of those days that you wait for all winter long.
in fact it was such a good day i just had to go back on friday. BAD CHOICE. i thought i was done sucking the ice off my eyes for the year. it was brutal out there this morning. the temps never made it above 30, and the freezing rain and drizzle made it awfully hard to see through my glasses. my hands and feet were frozen solid by 7:00. and to top it all off, there were no fish.
we started around 6:30 this morning at baypoint in redwing. we were the first and only boat in the landing at that time (suprise, suprise) . headed out and fished for about 2 hours around the hay creek area. got one 19″ sauger for our efforts. it was caught on a plain hook and a minnow (when the fishing gets tough go simple, right jarrad ). a few boats started to show up and they weren’t catching anything either so we headed down stream. fished right through town and under the river bridge with no takers. when we got down below the bridge we did see a few other boats, and a few smaller fish get caught. by 10:00 we ended up back at hay creek and managed one more little(13-14″) sauger on a purple ringworm. by 10:30 we had had enough. our faces were all wind burned like this — .
not quit what i was expecting considering the succsess we had only 3 days earlier. i guess the weather really does play a big role in how active the fish are gonig to be.
