I just wanted to drop a Pool 2 update from last night. With all the wind that was present yesterday the shallow pitching bite was tough to tackle for me. Therefore I started out anchoring on the edges of the current breaks and pitching a jig/minnow combo out into the current and letting the current sweep the jig back into the slack water. This produced many small fish up to 16″. As the sun went down the wind continued to blow with gusts of 25mph+, so I dug out the crankbaits and worked these very same current breaks using the bow mount trolling motor and slowly crawling along the edge of the slack water with a slow 4 foot rod sweep and pause action. This produced a couple fish over the 20″ mark including a 24″ fish. I continued this approach for another 1/2 hour with a couple more smaller fish to show for it. Most of the current breaks the I fished seem to hold a few fish. The key depth for me last night seemed to be from 5-7 foot sand/rock areas. Before I left for the evening, I gave the shallow ringworm bite a try and boated a couple small walleyes. The fish were present, but getting a properly placed offering to them was a little difficult due to the cross wind I had to deal with. By going heavier on the jig head only gave negative response from the fish. Look to this bite be more productive as the winds diminish!
I will be posting a report by the weekend to give a more elaborate report for Pool 2.
