well, i got out fishing this morning. by the sound of some of the reports here lately the big fish were just supposed to jump in the boat. it sure didn’t happen for us. started fishing around hay creek at 6:30. caught maybe 9 fish before 8:00. the biggest being a 18″ sauger. then the bite there just plain stopped for us. moved up river at about 10:00 and did some random drifts just below everts on booth sides of the channel. caught one here and there. nothing to exciting.

we saw TONS of boats heading for the dam so we never even went up there. talked to a few guys that had about the same luck we did. a few fish, mostly early, nothing over 20-22″.

we had to leave by 12:00 because i had to work, but i would have stayed out all day if i could have. just beautiful out there today. bay point parking lot was completely full and well into the overflow by noon. maybe the high boat pressure put a damper on the fishes moods, but it sure wasn’t as good of a bite as i expected. all the fish we caught were caugth on purple or blue ringworms. we tried hair jigs, minnows, super doos, but ringies worked the best. you guys sure have done a good job advertising those things, i’d say at least 60% of the boat out were using them. they sure work good.

i’ll be back on thursday to try agian, can’t waste my spring break just working ya know . hopefully my video arrives by then so i can try out some new techniques.

Yes there is a ton of boats out today Jake. That makes that shallow water bite tough. They were there to be had today though. I had a guy bring an 11 lber/29 inch fish in for a picture today. They said they released 15 fish over 20 inches this morning. I have heard a fair amount of reports of smaller fish today. Lots of people saying 40-50 fish mornings, with not a lot of big ones. I guarantee you that the big fish/shallow water bite is not as good on high boat traffic days. I think James/Dustin and many others who do that techinque will attest to that……Look on the bright side, you were fishing in calm/sunny/upper 60 degree weather, and I was working. Thanks for the report. Good Luck.

60, try 70 degrees!!! it was absolutly gorgoues on the water today. we had plenty of fish today. we could have had a pretty good stringer if we were to keep any. did think i wanted to clean fish though.

i’m going to try and get out thursday. it will probably be a little less crowded. it’s not supposed to be nearly as nice as today was. thats fine with me though, a little rain never hurt nothing.
