After spending most of yesterday and this morning at home sleeping due to a flu bug, I needed to get some fresh air and headed down the road to Trempeleau. I didn’t get out there until 1:00 so it really wasn’t prime fishing time, but I go anytime I can. I started off fishing in 10-15 fow with a blue/white tail ringworm on a black Precision jig. This combo didn’t land any takers and either did the depth. With the sun out and no clouds I decided to try out the firecracker/blue tail with the same jig as before. I was fishing behind a small wingdam in 19 fow when the first fish hit the boat. It was a chunky 14″ sauger with some awesome markings. I then went up and made the same drift and a beautiful 19″ sauger hammered the ringworm. I love it when they hit jigs with authority like this one did. I pickesd up one more at this spot that went 16″. After that, I just went around exploring different breaks and depths and managed one more dink sauger. The water temp is fluctualting between 39-40 degrees, clarity is moderately clear, and no grass to speak of. The big problem up at the dam right now is no flow. The light south wind this afternoon would blow you up stream. The only real current is way up near the dam, but it drops off to nothing really quick. From what I could see, the fish are really scattered and not alot of fish were caught today.

Thanks for the report. The fish in the picture almost looks like a saugeye.
Man those water temps are making me want to …The reality of winter is comming closer! (which is a good thing, but sad in some ways)

Glad you are feeling better. It must have been nice not to be fighting grass

Good report,Mike.Nice saugers, they seem to be the norm lately.Have not seen much for decent walleyes since water temps dropped. The action was steady after you left, then died right before dark.Did decent the other day at 5A tailwater, those fish wanted bladebaits.Forgot the camera, but released everything.Ya sure get dirty looks when you release them.

Looks to get better as the week rolls on.

Hey Mikey, nice fish. Sorry I missed you guys on Sat. But with only two holes in my ceiling…all is good! I hate electrical problems!!

Anyway, I went to pool 9 for the last few hours of light on Saturday. I think I drove longer than I fished, but I did put 3 nice fish in the boat. The big ticket for me is my old stand by, a dark purple glitter jig with chartruese pepper ringworm. I guess the fish would average 17 inches. I was fishing current seams in about 18 FOW…very slowly, just twitching the retrieve. I did get out Sunday morning for a few hours of darkness until 9:30 am. The only colors that worked were firecracker chart. tail with a gold glitter jig and Firecraker blue tail. However, when the sun was high, I fished down river on the tips of wingdams in about 15 – 20 FOW and threw one-eyes. That was the only way I could pick up fish on Sunday. I had to move a lot also, they are so scattered If I could fry grass, I would have had a limit after six casts!! Man that gets old in a hurry. Anyway, pool 9 was pretty slow…in the morning anyway.

Are you or Brett going to pool 9 next weekend?

    Pool 4…figures!!!

Well Don’t catch them all Bret!! How did you end up doing Saturday? By the way, you did not miss anything on Sunday. I guess some guys did pretty well around blackhawk park area using jigs and minnows.

Good luck at Pool 4 Bret!

That grass down there is a real pain to fish in I normally do not fish this late in the fall so I have never had to deal with the grass until this year
But, if you wanted some salad to go with your fish, you would be in business
I am looking forward to hitting Pool 4 again this weekend with Bret and Mike C
