could someone give a quick one-eye 101 class?
we picked some up on a pit stop last fall at falling rock but never had any luck with them on pool 4 or back home. i snapped jigged them, had a lot of foul ups with the front treble catching the line and didnt give them much chance to work.
    thanks in advance

Foul ups are common with one eyes. Try a lift rather than a snap and follow it back on a tight line. Above all, don’t bounce it off the bottom as I suspect this is when many front treble foul ups occur. I also try not to lift over 10 to 12 inches.

One eyes seem to work best for me when no other approach is prouducing. I have also noticed a definite color preference….i.e. three guys fishing three different color one eyes with only one getting bit. This certainly applies to all baits, but with one eyes it can go from ten fish to no bites at all, until you fish the color your partner is kicking your butt with. So change up often till you find the color of the day.

    IlliniWalli,

I was talking with Dean and he said one-eyes typicaly do not work too well on pool 4…not sure why. He said blade baits are much prefered by the fish up there.

However, like Brian said, do not lift too high. I like an 8 to 10 inch lift. If you are working too hard, you will just tire yourself out. Fish them more like a jig. I like to cast to a wingdam and jig them back. I do fish them faster than a jig because if I do not I will get them stuck in the rocks, so I lift and let down, reel, lift and let down. They ( the fish ) seem to want only one color when they bite as mentioned earlier. On pool 9 silver or white and purple seem to be by far the most productive for me. They only seem to work when all else fails. It is easier to vertical jig them, but I get bored with that technique, so I cast when ever I get the chance. I do not have a camera so I can not get you a picture…sorry.
