Was on pool 4 today, we got our kicked. wind was a factor for novice river rats like us. Fished from the dam all the way to the head of Pepin.

Tried three ways, jig and minnow, trolling, drifting. nothing worked for us.

Would like to thank Dean at Everts. I had the pleasure of meeting Dean today and as I have read he was a great host had good lively bait and shared as much as he could about where to find them and how to do it.

Thanks Dean. Always good to put a face with a name.

    Good luck to all

I have fished seriously for a long time and been Guiding for some time too Paul. I took guided trips on Pool 4 with James Holst(IDA GUIDES) and Jarrad (River Guys Guiding).
I learned an incredible amount of info and have done extremely well on my own ever since. You may consider that in the future…JMHO.
I am coming down tomorrow and will give it a whirl…I’ll hopefully post some good news via Dean for tomorrow night!

    Thanks Tom,

Sure could have used the guide today. Its nice to have a guide when the fishing is a little tough, that really shows there skills and knowledge.

Good Luck and keep a tight line

I totally agree with Tom. Last spring was my second time on pool 4. I fished with Jason Halfen and learned a ton in just one day of fishing. Just when you think the fish are just not biting, someone at Everts comes in with a limit or two..

It was a tough day on p4 today, the wind was a real pain, it made boat control almost imposible. We never seen a fish until early afternoon when we decided to change locations closer to the dam, anything black seemed to do the trick, most were smaller saugers with only a few that were measurable and one 23 inch walleye as a fine finish to the day. Things should pick up here real soon!

Thanks for the updates guys…….yes dealing wth the wind is a major challenge for boat control and acceptable bait presentation to the fish.If you struggled yesterday, you certainly werent alone. For those that got a handle on the bite, upsizing there jig weight was the key.We finally had a good report of ringworms , paddletails and k-grubs putting fish in the boat.Colors? Purple and chart-pepper were the color of choice yesterday puting some mid 20 inch fish in the boat.
