I have my note signed and I get to go fishing. Heading to pool 4.
What would be the best presentation?
3 ways?
pitching cranks?
jigging?
live bait?
plastics?
deep or shallow?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I was out on Tuesday. Only used blade baits… Heddon sonars. Tried gold… no luck. Switched to chartreuse and caught one 22″ walleye and three 19″ saugers. Picked up another sauger on black as evening approached. Anchored on the Wisconsin side by the trees in about 14 FOW. Good Luck!
Another option is to pull 3-ways with rapala-stickbaits.Very common presentation this time of year and we did have some success stories here today using that method.I would suggest targeting the 18-22 foot levels.Good luck!
Stupid question but what is a blade bait? I think I know but how about a photo?
Thanks everyone for your input and Dean I will see you in the morning. I have a few sonars glad you have plenty more.

Yes I will post a report and hopefully some pics.
good luck to all
I was very suspicious of Blade baits until I was “schooled ” by Dean and Steve Vick…Dont watch the guys drifing down the river jerking their arms out of the sockets.
Drop the blade slowly and lift it just fast enough to cause vibration…sometimes just hold it near the bottom barely wiggling…
I agree i personaly have never used them but I was under thew impression most of the fish caught on them were snagged Iam not trying to be smart thats just what I thought.
I just got home from fishing the river and had a fun time. We ended up bringing home 4 saugers ranging from 13-18 inches. 3 of the 4 were caught using hair jigs with a minnow while the other one came from an oddball jig. Water temp was 50 degrees so this should be the first of many trips down there. Most guys are fishing on the WI side of the channel near the dam but we caught all our fish on the MN side. Best depths today were anywhere from 18-24 FOW. I also have to say a big thanks to Dean for all his help and advice. It is great to have someone like that who is willing to give out great and accurate info to make the fishing more enjoyable. Thanks again Dean and I wish I could make it down for the Saugerama next weekend but I think my son would be upset if he missed his chance to go deer hunting. I definatly will be back down soon!!!!
millerman, here’s a picture of a sonar. they work very well this time of year and, in my opinion, will become less and less effective as it gets colder. you can slow down the presentation and catch fish in the winter though. Another good bait is a “one eye” or “walleye banger”. these are usually locally made from pool to pool but basically a oval shaped hunk of lead with some flash to it. I’m sure Dean’s got some of these as well. Couldn’t find a pic of one of these.
Hmmm, I gotta try some more blade baits, I was under the impression most of the fish were snagged too, I guess I wasn’t seeing people fishing them the correct way.
Slayer,
Got my but kicked.
Boatr control wasnt easy with the wind.
Tried 3 ways jig and minnow, plastics deep shallow.
Nothing worked for our boat. The only thing we didnt try was fishing close to the dam and wing dams.
Fished all the way to the head of the lakes. Will try it again after a couple weeks.
Good luck and keep a tight line
paul
