I have only fished one river for walleye and that was Rainy River I’m coming to fish the Mississippi and had a few questions.1. How deep does the river get in these pools…say 15&16? 2. Is the water muddy looking or is it cloudy green?Maybe someone can help. Thanks

First off i would try to find a good map of the pools, you will fish! The water here on the mississippi is amost always stained or muddy (depends on the rain fall north or the lock&dams) The river is always changeing you may go from 40feet of water to 2feet

in very short order! The main channel remains on avg. 8-10ft

for barge traffic(between the markers) Wing dams would be a great place too start off, But be careful of the rocks, the river is low right now!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Thanks.I’m new at this computer stuff so don’t know which response you will get .I have a map of the river but all I can find on depth is aprox.9 ft. We fish reservoirs to 70 ft.,so I was wondering what depth and colors we would be dealing with.In response to Mountain man ,we have reservations made just hope schedules work out. Have more questions when I get time .Look forward to fishing the river and meeting some of you guys at the classic.

I believe you will encounter few areas deeper than 20 feet in these pools. Of course there are some deep holes but most of the fish you will find are not that deep. I fish pool 14, which has a few 50′ or more holes, but rarely fish these. Most of the action on this pool is in 2-20′ of water. Good luck at the classic! Maybe I’ll see ya there!
