pool 2 action

I fished pool 2 this morning and it was slow for walleyes. There are tons of minnows near the surface right now and the bass are stirring them up. I did have fun catching a good number of white bass. The strong south wind did not make fishing wing dams very fun later in the morning. The water clarity is about a foot and the water is barely moving. Anybody else been out lately?

That seems to be the same report all the way down to Wabasha.

10 lbs won the Grumpy Old Mens’ tourney. Heck, I think I could do that! Well, maybe not.

I was out on P2 Saturday morning too. I caught a bunch of fish and had a good time but in five hours I only had two walleyes (a 20″ and a 22″). But I did catch a smallie, a northern, a few sheepies, about a half dozen white bass (decent sized ones), and the for the first time I caught a Quill Back sucker. Oh, and a small flathead too.

I agree that the water is barely moving. Even with the upstream wind, the wingdams were not showing much of a ripple line.

Sppent a little time on pool 2 the last few days fishing around hidden falls and the confluence. Tried long lineing crankbaits with no luck on anything friday afternoon. Could not even get a bass to hit one.

Head back down there this morning and had a little better luck. We managed about 8 eye this morning. Not much for size. It atleast kept the kids busy that I took out this morning. Jointed grappler shads and 6A bombers is what they wanted. Dragging bottom. Both up river and down. Nothing new on that pattern. Was going to try dragging some jigs this morning but didnt get a chance to.

Any one else been haveing any luck on the upper part of the pool.

I have been fishing upper P2 and the bite is slow, with a little of everything trolling but no size. I have been having better luck on P1, trolling Tots and shadraps in the upper sections. Less Walleyes and more SMB up there, along with nice cats. In my last 4 trips up there I saw only a couple fishing boats and a lot less “Wakemasters”.

I spent a lot of hours last night and today on the middle section of P2. Targeted A LOT of unmarked wingdams. The south winds yesterday made boat control very difficult…actually anchored downstream and let out enough rope to fish above the wingdams…unbelievable!!!

Today’s north winds helped a lot…again targeting the unmarked (and some of the marked) wingdams, I did put some smaller fish in the boat (and back in the drink).

Guys, the fish are dispursed…you just got to hit as many dams as you can, try not to lose too many baits along the way and put your time in on the water. I’ve found a lot of the wingdams using my electronics…you won’t find them otherwise. Go slow inside of the channel markers and watch. Then plug in the GPS waypoints when you find one.

Any lures work better than others Martin. FOr those days with a south wind you can also try a trolling motor or kicker in revirse off the back of the boat. A drift sock or bucket may work also but there is not much current right now.

    Hey Marty!
Did you try any of your grapplers? I’m curious to hear if they worked for you. Later sir!

Joel, the Bomber 6A in crawdad pattern and the firetiger Shad Rap were working for me.

    Nothing on the Grappler Shad.

Mike, I did attempt the drift sock but, as you said, there was not enough current.

Just put in an order for 8 Bomber 6A’s. Hopefully I’ll be losing…Ah, I mean using them on wingdams next week.

Hey guys I havnt fished 2 for eyes in a bit but will be soon agian. Have you guys been pretty much just hitting the wingies or have you tried any longlining on them nice hard bottom areas or breaks up next to deep water?? This current feels slower than what I seen in febuary so I just curious to how heavy they are relating to wingdams or if there may be a better or equal option to get some nice fish in the boat
This low flow has been a bumber

I think Martin said it right when he stated keep moving. I wouldn’t spend too much time in any one location (unless the fish keep biting) because with the low flow they can be wherever they want. That said, the wingdams have been ok for picking up a few fish here and there. Good luck!

I got out for a short bit, spent way more time running and breaking in my new boat correctly, than fishing, but I managed to skunk myself once again, others I talked to said it was a tough bite today, compared to yesterday.

Must be a defect in that new boat that is preventing you from catchng fish. Whats the scoop onb the new ride? Any photos?

I didn’t want to make a post just for myself, I still feel a tad like I can’t believe I bought it, and spent all that money, but we love it, and I know it was still a great deal and well, might as well buy it now We bought a brand new 2005 Ranger 190vs Reata, with a 200 yamaha VMAX (efi) motor. Bought it through Gander mountain (Forest lake) and Crystal Pierce, I can honestly say I’m 100% happy with the service they gave, I couldn’t ask for a better boat buying experince, it went really smooth and they did a great job helping me out.

I’m actually a bit embarrased to admit this thing actually scares me a bit, 5 times the motor of my last boat it’s much heavier, never used a bunk trailer before, the though alone of what my motor costs is enough to make me feel a bit uneasy. Though I will say I’m aclamating to the new boat fine, it will just take some time to get used to it, but it’s not nearly as easy to deal with as my little lund was. I dod manange to launch and load by myself at hidden falls with no problem. Time will bring my comfort level back up, then I have to work on the wife.

Sweet boat Sir Nick! I think you should give me a ride in it to make sure XL adults fit in it well. Have fun!
