I got out for an early trip to Pool 4 today. Launched at Pepin before 6 and was back off the water at 1 in the afternoon. Covered water between Pepin and Maiden Rock. It was a generally (very) slow day for us, with only two quality fish coming to the boat. We also found a few pike, perch, and a dogfish (woof woof). Nearly all of our fish came on leadcore with either clear glass SR7s or jointed hot perch SR5s. We worked all sorts of depths, but most of our bites came at the base of breaks in 15-17 fow. Hope somebody did better than we did!

Nope. Today was a complete bust for my boat.

The fish in the river wanted nuttin’ do to with anything I threw at them. Not sure why but the bite went from HOT to NOT over the last couple days.

    How are the P4 mayflies?

I saw very few… Dean stated he’s seen only small – light hatches. Not that I’ve ever found the mayflies to have much of an effect on the walleye bite. In most years past the heavy hatches usually IMPROVED the bite in the river.

When the hatches start heavy we switch over from cranks or other livebait offerings to light rigs fishing little black leeches.

Ok, it wasn’t just me getting my handed to me. Now I just have to hope for a turn-around by Friday, as I will be spending the afternoon with my kid’s 80-yr old great-grandfather on Pepin. Come on fish gods, smile upon me!!

It’s been the same way for my boat. Went out Thursday night fishing some new spots and looking for some hawgs and got SKUNKED. What’s going on, this is JUNE!!! Gonna try it again tomorrow, hopefully with better results.

We stunk it up pretty good on Friday again. Hit the water around 9 and went without a bite until 2. Picked up 3 around Maiden Rock (only 1 keeper) and then kept heading down the lake until I found some cleaner water. Ended up in the Pepin area with a mixed bag of saugers, white bass, crappies, pike, and sheepies but it was a major struggle. It gave me a chance to sort through just about all of my cranks, however.

don’t worry i don’t think anyone did that great…we got 2 lil eyes, and a mix of bass with a couple sheepers too..no other boats around us seemed to have any luck either.

Was testing some new water on pool 3 thursday and friday. 99% of my time was spent on the wingdams. Not good for my boat on 3 . Water was very dirty . Looked to be cleaning up a bit on friday afternoon but the big tuna boats willl take care of that this coming weekend .

Good to hear I have not missed a whole lot on upper pool 4. I see we might have to go hunt down and tailpipe Vandy on the south end of the pool if he keeps putting Mike on some big uns .

Went out and trolled the lake today because the river hasn’t been too good to me the last couple days. Started down by Pepin, found the breaks, and headed north to Maiden Rock. Only caught 6 legals, but we never turned around if we caught a fish. All our fish came off points in 12-14 fow. Good luck to everyone heading out tomorrow.
