A friend and I headed down to Central Point (sometimes referred to as Diggers point). My friend nailed a 15-inch sauger in 10 feet of water. He caught this on a green jig head with a three-inch chartreuse ringworm, tipped with a minnow, just like last Friday. I used the Min-Kota trolling motor to maneuver around the point. My friend caught two more on the south side of the point. We were both rigged the same and he was catching all of the fish. Do you ever wonder why this happens?

We fished the south side of the rocky City Point near the marina. Ah, finally, I caught a nice walleye right at the entrance of the Lake City Marina in front of the gas sign in 13 feet of water. We kept going back and forth catching either walleyes or saugers for about 2 hours straight. The walleyes were tearing up these green jigs again. I caught a nice crappie and my friend landed a 15-pound catfish. She was huge and put up one heck of a fight. Now I know why BrianK loves to catch cats. Finally, the fish moved out, so moved too.

My friend changed from a pink hook to a chartreuse hook. I changed to a fire tiger Phelps Floater. We drifted parallel with the shore down to the Rochsen landing. We fished the beak line in this area. In 10 feet of water near the boat landing, I caught my first northern of the year. I changed from a green jig head to a pink jig head tipped with a 3-inch white twister tail. We kept on drifting southward. Within a matter of minutes, I landed a nice 20-inch walleye. We caught a few more saugers along the way. When we got to the little point that sticks out, we decided to move once again.

This time we tried the rocks along Hwy 61 where Digger’s used to be located. My friend caught a nice sized white bass. He also had a nice northern on, but lost it near the boat. I didn’t see the fish, but my friend said that it was about 3 feet long. By 2 in the afternoon we had our limit and it was getting very hot, so we called it a day.

The walleyes were mainly in about 10 feet of water and the saugers were in about 13-15 feet of water. My friend caught two white bass, a big catfish, a darn sheepie, a few saugers and walleyes, and lost a big northern. I caught a big sheepie, a few walleyes and lots of saugers, one crappie, and one northern. The biggest walleye was 20 inches. Most of the fish averaged about 15-16 inches in length. It was another great day, even better then last Friday.

Here is a picture of the northern. Nothing big, but it sure put up a fight.
