Here’s another question … What are the best maps out there for pools 2 and 4? I’m especially interested in 2 (per my previous question) but would be interested in a better map of 4 that shows more bottom contour details. I’ve got the Hot Spots map and it just isn’t very good. Thanks!

the main river channel for the most part is fairly uniform. There are some bottom changes and some up and down rifts also in the main channel. I used my map when I first got it to show backwaters, channels, cuts, and winddams. and the bottom and sand flats are always changing from year to year with strong currents, melting, and spring storms, I can see if they made a good contour map, that the next year it would be all wrong anyway. the only map I have seen of pool 2 is the dnr Metro Mississippi River Guide, and and the Mississippi River Guide I’m sure starts at Hastings and goes downstream. John23,

Here’s a post I made regarding maps for Pools 1,2, and 3 a while back.

A while back somebody inquired about fishing maps for Pools 1, 2, and 3. The only one I know of is published by Where to Catch’em Lake Maps (phone 1-800-253-9682). It covers river miles 785 to 868 (Redwing to Coon Rapids). The map is pretty decent but it doesn’t do a good job of showing the ramps on Pool 2. For example, the 494 or St. Paul Park ramps are not shown. But it does show Everts Resort and even lists their website as http://www.fishtheriver.com/everts. It’s definitely worth the $2.75 I paid for it French’s gas station in Prescott.

What about the maps from the Army Corps…we had some posts on here a few months ago with a link…I’ll see if I can hunt it down. Those maps were incredible! And free to print from the web on your color printer.

LUNDgeye is right on with the links he has supplied. This one below here is the one and only map I really care to have in my boat for my fishing on Pool 2. http://www.mvr.usace.army.mil/NavCharts/UMRNavChartsIdx01.asp

I have several old fishing maps of Pool 2 that are have been published and they are marginal at best in my opinion. The one above is very good at showing the majority of the wingdams, marinas and all of this can be printed out in color. Several people have seen the way I have made my set of maps from the link above and seems to work very well for me and several others have followed suit as well. I have taken sections of this map and zoomed in and printed these off and laminated them with a real thick lamination and then punched one hole in the corner and put a heavy duty key ring to keep them all together!

    Hope this helps.

Try a set of the navigation charts from USACE for wing dams and launches and main channels for all the pools on the Upper Miss, although depths are not shown. the charts are about $35. Most pages are down loadable, but not as clear as the printed charts.
