I’m taking my uncle and his son out on pool 4 this weekend and they are suffering under the impression I know what I am doing.

Anyhow just wondering if anyone has some helpful suggestions. What’s been working and what hasn’t. And general locations and depths not spots. Thanks IDA Folks! I’ll be out there in a blue Mr. Pike with a grey 115 Yamaha with lots of IDA stickers. Stop and say “hi” if’n you see me!

    1. Hire Briank as your guide……..
    2. And get some Bullheads for bait!
    3. Pretend your fishing for Cat’s.

I fished today for about 4 hours out on the lake. It was blowing big time today. It was my first time out this spring and I found fish much deeper than I expected pulling #5 jointed shads in firetiger and blue/orange.

It seemed like I had to go really slow to get them to bite, so going with the wind wasn’t an option. Tough boat controll day for me. Before 11 a.m. it was a walleye/sauger mix. 5 eyes between 12-15″ with one 18.5 and a few nice sauger for a fish fry. After 11 all I caught was sauger, about 50/50 keepers/shorties.

As I said, It was really rolling out there today. I tried fishing some wind blown rip rap shallow, but had my handed to me by the wind with no fish to show. I couldn’t get bit until I went out deeper.

I’ll try again tomorrow. I think I might head further south.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for the report Scott! I think our game plan is to go deeper and for saugers when we get out around noon tomorrow and then go for the eyes a little later in the day and shallower. At this point I’m planning on staying on the far north end of the lake into the river a little. I just know that area better than south. Good luck tomorrow maybe we’ll run into each other?

    Joel,
Chappy knows what he is talking about, you better listen to him when I comes to Walleyes taken on Bullheads. Go find his pictures. Awesome….
as far a pool 4, if things are a little slow, you should be able to find some WhiteBass schools, those are always alot of fun.
    good luck.. report back.

I’m hoping to report back something great Jack. And I really hope it doesn’t get to the point where we are dunking bullheads in the middle of the night. Although you can’t argue with the nice eyes that get caught that way. I think the walleye action on the 7″ bullheads is a little on the slow side. Maybe one or two every couple of years? I’ll stick to jigging/rigging/ and cranking. Later sir!
