Made it out to pool 12 this weekend. On Sat. we spent our time around the Dubuque area and on Sun. went to the south end of the pool. Not a rocket hot fishing weekend by most boaters accounts, but we did manage to put one 17″ and two 18″ in the livewell for supper. The fish were caught using a typical Dubuque rig with a tag line of 4 to 6 ft long. It appeared that the fish really wanted something live on the hook, because plastics and stick baits accounted for zero eyes (although the rough fish really warmed up to them nicely). We had a few short eyes but didn’t see a single sauger come to the boat. We split our time between wing dams at 8 to 18 feet and clam beds in the 8 ft range. We did pitch to shore for awhile, but that method didn’t seem to hold the key. Pool 12 seems to be at normal or slightly low stage and flow right now, with the first or second wingy in the group being the area to be. All in all, a wonderful weekend to just be out. Happy fishing to all.
