Well FINALLY I got a GOOD SuperDoo bite going again… the last few weeks have been fairly tough with this tactic (for me at least!)… RingWorms have been a real drag (tongue in cheek!, cuz the one of the best bites lately has been dragging ringers)…. today early I got going in the morning with purple bucktails and sonars and took a dozen nice saugers that way up towards the dam.. but finally the sun came out and that bite died for me… so I went down towards the vermillion and got into a pretty hot super doo bite and nailed around 20 nice saugers and walleyes… chartruese pepper was the hot color….. so I landed over 30 decent fish today on a beautiful day… the water is coming up and getting a BIT dirtier….. and of COURSE I have some pix so you can get your fishing fix!!….. first… who is this fog shrouded person? is it a pirate ship hoisting the jolly roger? hmmmmm.. yes sir.. thats Captain Hook for sure.. Captain James Hook…. errrr Holst (close enuf!!)…… scared the P out of me when he screamed “heave to or Ill sink ya!!” j/k

meanwhile, over by the flathead hole flatheads were being hoisted aboard (perhaps this flatheads name is Jolly Roger? and they are hoisting it?)…. these fisherman said they landed TWO 50#ers on Friday….. *yikes*!…. this one looked pretty good sized… but I suppose its just dinky compared to a 50……

Darrell Klevan and I were out Monday 3/17 and did not do well at the dam area but once we moved down river things picked up a bunch for us. Attached is a pic of Darrell ready to set the hook.

Here I just got a 19″ eye on a Kalin that was released. We did keep 6 of the smaller 15-17″ fish for eaters and put another 6 back to swim again. At 5:30, when we came in, the game warden said the 6 eaters we had were the best he had seen all day. So it must have been a bit slow for some of the folks out there.

it was the strangest thing about the co-pilot… at times it was very easy to use.. just push the botton and zoom, motor turns, zip motor speeds up, zap it slows down…. but then after a short while I could push the button and NOTHING would happen…. and that was intermittant…. until I got next to Tuck… and my boat turned into a suicide torpedo…. and No Tuck.. you DID NOT hear me scream “BANZAIIIII!!!”…. talk about embarrassing… it locked up just as I pointed at Tuck!!… oh well… could have been worse….. like a barge or something……

Tuck, do you have a metal plate or hip…………joint……….anything that Co-Pilot could zero in on? “Just happened to……….” YAHHH!!!! Whatever!
Don’t let him fool you! The old “Here’s a collar for ya Pup” was all part of the same plotting this doer of dastardly deed does! I mean, all it takes is once buddy……………and he’s ALLLLL OVER YA!

Let me guess……….you were catching more fish? Bigger fish? Something “incidentally true”? News for ya Tuck……………there ain’t been a Pup standing in his boat for a LOOOOOONG time because of his little “attitude”!

(Now………sshhhhh…………….this post should distract him enough from wanting to continue any attacks on you ………………. at least for a while! Have a good time!)

Good to see a little tongue in cheek bantering on this site again! That was one of the main attractions of this site for me when there were far fewer users in the early days. I still did not want to miss an episode of “Eyes and the Pup”! Sorry you had to get in the middle of it though Tuck!

Now this sounds interesting. Metal joints, hips etc. can put Rivereyes in a tail spin maybe. Maybe I’ll have to try out my new knee parts when I’m next to him and see what happens. lol. Hey Pup, what kind of boat did you say Rivereyes is fishing out of this year? This could be FUN!!! Thanks, Bill

Fishing down here is just getting started. Ice is going out BIG time the last couple days. This weekend should be a bumper crop of boats on the water. I’ve made a couple brief excursions, but the ice has chased me away both days. Been working the dos, ringies and Kalins. Not a lot of luck yet, but I’ve mostly experimented with new spring areas for me, away from the crowds at the dam. I have complete confidence that the “do” will do the trick this spring, just need to hone my fish finding skills a little more. No doubt the hungry mama’s are out there waitin’ for me and my super dos!

funny thing about the doos…. Ive not had much luck with them over the last month… and by that I mean I could scrape up a limit… but the days of big numbers that were common earlier in the winter had ended…. until Monday that is… dont know if it had anything to “doo” with when the raised the gates… but I suspect it could have…… but I had a great bite going on the doos…… and Im pretty sure that will continue and maybe even get better…..

can you also tell me what kind of areas these hot females go to spawn i had heard that they look for the old cattail weed in some of the sloughs is this ture. and not so much of the in coming creeks or rivers?
Also when fishing these three ways about how long is the dropper and the leader, with what on it for a lure or hook
These ring worms how long are they and where can i find some if and when i come to red wing P.S the avg size of the worm that is mostly used it’s pretty new to me about the ring worm
Also when you find the white bass is it mostly true that its to late for the walleyes When they are in shallow Thanks, you are a great help, this is a great site. thanks again

Lets see now, a white Groove-man boat with 2 water finders hanging out the sides and a camera pointed at himself. That shouldn’t be tooo hard to find. Anyone see something like that on the water let me know. Thanks, Bill

Its best to leave the spawning females alone during the spawn as they are the future of the fishery. It is early yet for them to be spawning but with the warm temps it won’t be too long. People will run about a 6-12 inch dropper on the 3-way with a leader of around 3ft. – 7ft. depending on the current speed. With a 3-way and crankbait use an 18 inch dropper with a 3-4 ft. leader. The popular ring worms lenth seems to be 4 inches. If you are coming from the south through Rochester going to Red Wing you can get B-Fish-N Tackle ring worms and super doos at Hooked On Fishing on Hwy. #63 going north out of Rochester. They have a good selection of the hot colors as I was out there today. If you are coming to Red Wing from the north part of Mn. or Wisc. you can pick them up at Everts Resort in Hager Cirt, Wisc. Good Luck and let us know how you do.
