My son, daughter-in-law and I fished Pool 5A for most of Saturday and a few hours this morning. Although we didn’t catch any hawgs, we ended up catching almost 100 fish, mostly Walleye and Sauger. The majority were under 15 inches, but we did end up with 22 legal fish for the two days, and the bite was extremely consistent. We also caught and released four nice smallies, along with a few mooneye and silver bass.

The bite was somewhat light and we found fishing bottom with minnows worked better then a Jig/Minnow combination.

I am now back in SE Wisconsin, but if anyone has a chance to get out on 5A within the next few days it is worth a shot.

Thanks for the update Fishy… Were you close to the dam or downstream more ???

Below the dam on the Wisconsin side. It seemed everyone was catching some fish in anywhere from 5 to 15 feet of water. The Minnesota side is also decent this time of the year, but the bite was good enough that we never tried that side.

Good to hear some reports from my old stomping grounds. I won’t be up there until the second half of May, but I am looking forward to hitting my double-secret late-spring walleye and sauger spot when I get there.
