What a day! The fish were not supposed to be biting, and we got a 10, and Bribigeyes got an 11.5. We pulled in more 4-6 pound fish yesterday than at any time so far this year!

Honest to god truth….. I was fishing yesterday with two friends of mine, (vertical jigging) they were using minnows and catching some fish,,,, I have not used minnows in three years so I didn;t want to break my string… So I took and used the ham sandwich that was in the boat ripped of a hunk and caught three walleyes…. that is the honest to god truth…just vertical jigging a hunk of meat w/ cheese….(bread wouldn’t stay on the hook….
Why did I do that??? I just wanteded to say that I have caught walleyes on Ham sandwiches before…..March 16, 2003 at 4:32 pm #254689Tuck-
Thanks a ton for taking that picture. It was the first day out in the new boat and I forgot a few of the necessities. I guess it was a pretty good way to christen the boat. I also would like to throw a huge thanks out to all of the FTR staff. I’ve learned alot of subtle stuff from guys like James, Dustin and Tuck. A lot of guides and pro’s would never share any tips with anyone for fear of somebody misusing information or passing on details to the wrong people. You guys are all class acts and I hope that this site continues to help fisherman add more tools to their “tool” or should I say “tackle” boxes. Thank you also to the guy that loaned us his digital scale, and yes that fish is still swimming. Good luck to everyone this week.March 16, 2003 at 4:40 pm #254696VERY nice fish guys. Thanks for sharing the pics Chris. Sounds like a beautiful day to have been out on the water. Thanks, Bill
March 16, 2003 at 4:42 pm #254697Wholly Smokes….Nice Walleye. I’ve been fishing most of my life and haven’t joined the 10 lb Club. The biggest I seem to get is 6lb. I hope a day will come when I can pick up something like that Piggie. Again NICE WALLEYE!!!
March 16, 2003 at 4:44 pm #254699Hey Nice pictures…Is that one of those blow up fish that were on sale at Cabelas last Friday????? Serious Good job Chris Real Nice photos…
March 16, 2003 at 4:50 pm #254700Great to see kids out fishing. They are the future of our sport. Nice fish Ben. Way to go. Thanks, Bill
March 16, 2003 at 4:51 pm #254701Here is Roger Hinckley of River Falls with another nice one. K-tails early were the ticket for us. Pitched, dragged, jigged, it did not matter. As darkness set, we switched over to purple and white tailed ring worms, and caught the dusk flurry. It was a blast until a bunch of ice from somewhere in Pool 3 let go!
I will be out all next week, hope to see more of the FTR faithful! It has been a lot of fun meeting everyone!
TuckMarch 16, 2003 at 11:20 pm #254723Nice fish Tuck!!!!!!!
How crowded was it?
Did you catch them in the same are that we were in Friday?
I’m going to make an evening trip this week if the weather cooperates.
See ya down there.March 17, 2003 at 12:20 am #254725chappy342,
it was nice to meet you on Friday, I am sure we will run into each other again on Pool 4.March 17, 2003 at 2:46 am #254743Bigeyes,
I was hoping to weigh one of my own that size on that digital scale, but I was glad I got to watch you haul her in anyway. Glad to see her go back in the water too. Nice job!!!March 17, 2003 at 2:56 am #254744Thanks Senders!! It’s great to have people like you, somebody I’ve never met before, be so generous. I guess that’s what this game is all about. If I would have known you were so generous, I probably would have asked for your net. We not only forgot the camera, but the net too. I have to thank Nick for tackling that thing into the boat. If weather patterns stay somewhat stable we could see alot of those big fish caught in the next month. Just remember CPR. Those big fish are the future for our kids.
March 17, 2003 at 3:10 am #254745I am betting that this next week there will be some very large fish caught! The biggest of 2003 for sure! Clarence, yes to all your questions.
CPR is the way to go!
TuckMarch 17, 2003 at 11:13 am #254749Steve, You sure you mean that chappy? I was the one talk to you? amd yes it was also nice meeting you.
March 17, 2003 at 12:24 pm #254752Nice fish guys! I was out on Sunday and no 10+lb fish for us but we had several fish in the 4lb to just short of 7lb range with 33 measurable eyes for the day. The numbers were down for me on this day but the size more than made up for the decrease in numbers I will try and get a detailed report up sometime this week if I find time…busy….busy…..busy!
March 17, 2003 at 9:20 pm #254777Spent three days at Pool 4, staying at Everts on Wednesday and Thrusday nites. Left after a great day of fishing on Friday, so looks like we missed some great action on Saturday. Just wanted to note that the several pro-staff members we met on or off the water (Tuck, James, and Dustin; James, I’m the guy you helped out with my boatcover as we were ready to get going back home) are class acts. And Steve at Everts is an exceptional host. this was our first time at Pool 4, but we certainly plan to be back, although I think we’ll try to avoid friday thru Sundays. Thanks guys.
March 18, 2003 at 12:59 am #254802Sorry about that Chappy, all three of us must have been in the same area as Chris.
March 18, 2003 at 1:36 am #254807Wow you guys really did good.
I was down talking to the DNR at the landing and they said out of all the boats 2 fish was the most fish brought in and the biggest was 23″.
When I was leaveing they were giveing a guy a tickit for haveing a 13″ walleye.
So what was the best presentation?
March 18, 2003 at 2:17 am #254819Saturday was a K-tail bite, today was a K-tail early, ring worm later bite. They opened the gates on the dam this morning, and the fishing changed IMMEDIATELY! At least the spots I had going for big fish. Plus, the water temp dropped with all that cold Pool 3 water and ice coming down.
Tuck
