It’s pretty rare anyone stays out past late afternoon. when I do stay out past sunset, I’m always the last boat off the water. The fish just bite so darn good during the day I guess that most don’t feel the need.

Next week down here as the full moon approaches, and depending
on cloud cover, we will probably do an all nighter. The fishing actually is usually best from 2-5 A.M. most years, but I like to try it all night sometimes just to make sure.

Oh I’m not saying a guy should leave the water as the sun gets low in the sky. Hardly. One of the best times to be on the water. But lately, the last 3 times Dustin or I have been out, mid-day -early afternoon has been the best for bigger fish with a good flurry of activity on the numbers in the AM. So what’s my advice? Fish as long and as often as your body can handle being on the water! Can’t catch ’em at home.

If you are not familiar with the area, it does NOT pay to be on the water after dark, especially if the water is down at all.. It can be dangerous! The barge traffic will also start to increase in the following months so play it safe…. Some of he best fishing is early morning and even at noon when sun rises that water temp a little… so why bother…….
