normally at this time of year if I can make a choice between pool 2 and pool 4 then pool 2 is the right choice… but pool 4 has been unusually good even at this tough time…
but today I chose pool 2, because I COULD…. I got out at noon and within 30 seconds caught my first (and ONLY!) fish…. I tried ring worms, superdoos, sonars, shad bodies…. all to no avail… and of course I tried various locations….. I was always within site of the 494 bridge…. I had NO minnows.. and just could not get a plastic bite to go…. end of story…
there was a slight lip of ice at the ramp when I launched but it was gone when I landed 3 hours later…… if you hit 2 I hope your luck is better then mine….. I just could not figure the bite out today…. I saw one other boat.. first they ran to the airport but shortly after that they were roaring back down river and spent the rest of their time below the 494 bridge a ways…. I have NO idea if they were successful…..

they say its not considered failure if you learn something in the experience… Im not sure I learned anything today… but in Dustin report on pool 4 he was using LIGHT jigs… guess what.. the ONLY fish I caught… (seen here swiming next to the boat with a ring worm in mouth) was on a 1/8th oz jig in 26’… after this fish I removed that head and went to 3/8… never had another bite!! hmmmmmm.. can you say duh?

dont like crowds you say? heres the only boat I saw on pool 2 today.. though I KNOW there were a couple of other rigs out… maybe a total of 4……. this pic was taken south of the 494 bridge…. they are fishing shallow… but I never was close enough to see if they were “catchin”…… I did not want to intrude!

Nice pics rivereyes. Thanks for sharing. The river really opened up in the past week or so. I remember seeing most of the river froze up with only a trickle of the main channel being open. What a little bit of nice weather and a little natural current will do for ya right?

Looks like some colder temps on the way by Saunday and into the week a little. Hopefully spring is right around the corner! Should have the boat ready in a couple days!

Sorry i missed you out there today. I was hanging out up by the airport. I started the day fishing just north of the bridge but had no takers. There where some nice fish by the airport. Wish I would of did that down sizing thing also.
Dropped the underwater camera down at hte airport and there where plenty of eyes swiming around. It was just a matter of hooking into them. I was really suprised when I could see very clearly with the camera at depths of thirty feet. I think it was last fall in redwing that I couldn’t see deeper than about 17′ with out the lights.
All I found down by the bridge was a huge school of sheepies and buffalo. These fish where thick down there around the wing dams. When you can see a dozen or more in the screen at a time you know there is a lot of them. Then a couple quick snaps of the rod tip and I was into the fish again.
Fish and learn here also for yesterday. All day and only 12 fish to show for it. The strange thing is I cant wait to get back out there.
